quad pass intercooler?????

i was looking at the dual pass intercooler mod today and i was gonna do it. But then i thought instead of tapping the outlet pipe on the same side as the inlet pipes could you tap them on the otherside and make a "quad pass" intercooler??? just have the coolant run through all 4 cores one way and come out the other side. i am sure that somebody has already thought of this. is there any reason that this wouldnt work??

That wouldn't work very easily. If you did it, good for you, but I don't see much of a need for that because the dual pass is so efficient. mYou woul dbe better off doing a dual pass with a dry ice box.

look at pg.45 of chapter 6 of the ecotec build book. there is a pic of the intake manifold with a outlet on the left hand side. they also modified this end of the manifold with a bigger flow passage. looks like instead of this end having two "U" shapes in it routing the coolant back to the other side of the manifold it seems like all four cores exit this way. it looks like GM has already made a"Quad pass" intercooler.

this might be a bit harder to do than the dual pass but i think it could be done and would be worth it. every bit of cooling helps.

Didn't the build book also say that the gains were negligible and not worth the extra cost and work?

if i already plan on doing the dual pass there wont be much extra cost or work to do a quad pass. just a couple more fittings to weld on. Everyone who has done a dual pass loves it. now x2 that.

The problem is that a new intake manifold is $700+ from GM rather than just modifying the $250 endplate.

If you do it, best of luck and let us know the results.
