3rd Gen HID Problem

3rd Generation Headlights:

Basically, from the HID Bulb, there are the 2 "quick connects" which I did, and then the BIG one for the power to the Ballast, which I did.

But there is also 2 other flat "spade connectors" Where do these go to?
I'm installing these on a friends SS/TC, and they are the the 3rd Generation Projector Halo Headlights. But prevously, his car had the 2nd Generation Projector CCFL Halo Headlights with HID's. (Alls we did is change the bulbs to HID H1 Bulbs).

I wish I had a picture, but I really don't.

And from the rectangular piece that connects directly to the car (It's like gray in color) [It has 5 or 6 prongs] there is a blue, & a white wire which aren't connected to anything.

I know it's confusing, but does anybody have any idea?

Those flat connectors should go to the wires that normally power the halogen light bulb. That's how the ballast gets power. Unless things were cut off when the 2nd gens were installed they should still be there.

Thanks a bunch man! But do you have a picture of what you are talking about? Or do you know at least, what it looks like?

Those flat spade connectors are completely lame and not weather proof...go to radio shack and get their prewired quick connectors and solder them on permanently...it's located in their "parts" cabinet near the back of the store...

Ok man. I'm going to look into that. But where would they be connected to?

Before anyone ever puts HIDs in the projectors, there are two wires that go to each bulb to give them power. They come from a big blue connector that plugs into the 9007 harness from the car. When the HIDs are put in, the wires that normally power the bulbs will now power on the ballast, so the flat connectors from the HID harness have to plug into the same style of connectors on the light harness so the HIDs will work. If you are using a relay harness the principle is the same, except the plugs will power the relay instead of the ballast directly.

sounds like the kit cheaped out on the female end of the harness connector, usually only the fog light kits only have the spades

From what side? Is the blue connector plugged in or are the wires that come out of the blue connector unplugged?

They use those connectors since the projectors use H1 bulbs (which connect using a flat connector rather than a socket)

Plug the blue connector to the connector that would normally have plugged into the back of the 9007 bulb. It's the same shape so should be easy to see.

****... I don't think we have that... Because these headlights before were connected to the 2nd generations... There is no other connector that would fit it.

Unless it was cut off when the 2nd gens were installed it should still be there. It's part of the harness that plugs into the rectangular plug that contains all the lighting wires. If you can take a picture of what you have to work with. Would make things easier to understand and see what you have to work with.

Looks like that harness was hacked up during the previous installation.

Basically what you have to do is find which wire provides the low beam power. You will need a ground as well but that's the easy one to find. I can't remember offhand what color the wire is for lowbeam power, but it'll likely be one of the ones that have those crimp connectors. If you have a multimeter it'll be real easy to find, just turn the lights on and probe the wires until you find the one that has 12 volts running on it. Don't confuse it with the parking light wire, which is brown.

In this case what I would do is completely cut off the blue connector, since it's useless without its mate. Once you find the proper lowbeam wire, attach the proper connector to it so that it can plug directly into the red wire for the HIDs. The black wire for the HIDs can be connected to a black wire in the rectangular plug. You can use the same method to find which wire powers the highbeam, then do the same there, except instead of going to an HID wire, it'll just go straight to the bulb.

Once all that is done you should be good to go, but it will have to be done on both sides if they're both in that shape. If you want to make sure everything is wired right, just follow the wire paths. The wires coming from the rectangular plug that originally powered the lowbeam bulb are now feeding into the HID ballast, which then feeds the HID bulb that is now in the socket. The wires that power the highbeam should go directly from the plug to the bulb. The turn signal bulb socket should be dangling somewhere in that mess and can just be plugged into the proper hole on the headlight.

Make sure you have the polarity right, the ballast is polarity sensitive.
