Ahh, vendors.. had to share this.
Ahh, vendors.. had to share this.
So one of the vendors here was recently getting rid of some OEM hoods I assume they had left over a build or two they had done.
Since I've been looking to get a good deal on the front lower deflector piece from an SC for a while, I thought I'd ask if they happened to have one:
From me, to Vendor:
Hey -
Saw your ad for the hoods, what a great deal!
You wouldn't happen to have any of the OEM front lip extensions that bolt to the stock bumper lying around you'd be willing to do an equally awesome deal on, do you?
Let me know, and thanks!
Vendor to me:
Chris
The only thing close I have is a 2005 Cobalt SS OEM complete front bumper in red.
Me to Vendor:
It still has the lip attached? Any dents, scratches, etc., and it has the lip?
Can you give me a quote, shipped to zip 28560?
Vendor to Me:
What lip? It is a 1-piece bumper. Send me a pic of what you are talking about.
Thx!
Me to Vendor:
The lower deflector attaches to the OEM SC bumper using 4 plastic screws and 14 tabs on the inside of the deflector.
The tabs are held on the inside using . The SC bumper actually looks identical to the 2.4L bumper, except that it has the 14 holes cut where these tabs go in.
It's part 16 on this link:

Vendor to Me:
The red SS/SC bumper I have here has no lip on it. It is from a 2005 model. Sorry.
Me to Vendor :
I am sorry, that's very odd though. This isn't a part that has changed from model year to year. It's been there since 05 and in fact is still on the new 08's, unchanged.
Here's a photo, maybe the front bumper you all have isn't an OEM SC or someone has removed it? This is an 05 based on the badge placement and vehicle color.

how the ****? you got to be dumber than i dont know, just ******* dumb. how do you not notice a lip, even AFTER you are shown a picture and diagram? lol? the lip has been there for 4 years, good lord.

no, probably because 1. the vendor should know a stock ss/sc bumper has a lip. and 2. they should know that it is not a one peice bumper
I do believe product knowledge is important...
I'm beginning to think this deflector is the holy grail of body pieces. If I ever find one (that a GM parts store [not any here] doesn't want to charge $150 to ship..) I'm going to paint it gold and hang it above my garage.

Atleast the vendor kept in contact with you about it. People cant know everything. People learn too. If they dont learn, then they dont make moeny because they dont know that they can supply you with what you want.

Well, I have found it. Hell, I know the part number. Just everyone wants too much for it.
It's actual part description is "Front Bumper, Lower Deflector" from what I've seen.

Yeah, but they want like $250 for it which is near MSRP. I think the dealer cost is something around $175.
I've found them online through GM parts stores for as low as $190, but they all want to charge between $100 and $150 shipping, which I think is a bit over the top for a 3 pound piece of unpainted plastic.
I'll find one sooner or later, just one of those piece on my 'to do list', you know.
And like I said, I wasn't really try to vendor bash.. which is why in my original post I didn't say who the vendor is.. I just thought it was a funny (if slightly frustrating) conversation.
I certainly still like Gravana, and their J2 Mesh wheels are also on my future buy list... and just maybe they'll come through on this.
