ARGH! resistor help!

Ok here's the deal, I decided to install my LED tails today, ordered 6 ohm resistors as recommended and installed one onto the drivers side (if you were standing behind the car). I spliced the wire, installed quick releases onto the resistor ends and car wire. Unfortunately after doing this, I still had the hyper flash. tried the other wire (even though my multimeter read a current only on the yellow) and nothing. Is it possible that there is a way to put these resistors in backwards (though they aren't labeled as right and wrong ends) or do I have to splice this resistor into the ground (though that doesnt make any sense) or could it just be a bad resistor? I'm sort of a noob at electrical and I ended up getting fed up, removed the resistor since it wasn't doing S#!t anyways and called it a day. Oh and by the way, our headlights suck and non user friendly when it comes to changing a simple bulb too... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Wire one end of the resistor into the brake light wire and the other end to the ground. Wiring it into only one wire does nothing.

They often make up the diagrams and stuff in such a way that even seasoned professionals can get confused...
