body side moldings

anybody remove these? i think the car looks better without them, and ive been thinking of removing them. they are just stuck on with adhesive right? and so, can a hair dryer do the job of removing them without pulling paint or do i need some heavy heat/ adhesive remover?

use a heat gun and some paint thinner. Also have patience. When finished Clay and wax those spots if not the whole car.

well I drive a white 2006 sedan. I took mine off last weekend and my paint underneath was a bit faded. It seemed like they did one coat of paint; put the mouldings on and then did the next coat. so right now I'm working on putting them back on, so just be careful. I just used a fishing line to pull mine off and adhesive remover.

I haven't done it yet, but I hear its exactly the same as debadging... If you've debadged, do the same thing... If you haven't debadged, heat it up, slowly pull it off (you can use fishing line), goo gone the remaining glue, then wax. It should turn out like a champ.

how many miles are on your car when you took them off? if the miles are packed on, then underneath the trim is what the car originally looked like.

i really doubt that under the trim is different. if the trim was painted while on the car, you would see paint covering the gap.

Are you kidding me? NEVER EVER USE PAINT THINNER ON YOUR PAINT!

Take some fishing line and run it underneath to get it off, then just get some goo gone to get the residue off. When i did it to my Z i didnt go the goo gone route i just heated it up and rubbed it off with my thumbs. It works but you wont have a thumbprint for a couple of days haha.

My car just rolled over 19,000 km's. On the passenger side front door, I actually can see the paint covering the gap. =\

Sorry to revive an old thread, but my orange balt has about 18000 miles on it (it's a 2005) and I was wondering if my paint would be faded compared to underneath the mouldings... I'm thinking about getting rid of them.

Anybody else wait a while to take off their mouldings??

over a year and 20k miles then i took mine off.... no discoloration at all. put some bug and tar remover, let it sit, wipe it clean, heat it with a hair dryer, use fishing line to get under the molding. then use goo gone and quik detailer... good as new and much much cleaner. no look at the removing exterior trim thread. I put a link to a video with the technique couple of guys fully debadged two STI's in under 20 minutes.
