Clear coat peeling on 1st Gen Projectors.. Solution?

I was thinking about diluting some lacquer thinner in a little water to make it a little less aggressive and rubbing lightly the outside of my headlights where the clear coat is peeling to try and take it all the way off. What do you guys think? Any other solutions??

bumppp

I'm pretty sure water and lacquer thinner do not mix.

Oh well I'd try to find a less aggressive lacquer thinner then.

Anyone else?

sounds to me like you may have to wet sand them and have someone (or you if capable) clear coat them again

you could try a wet sand of 2000 or 3000 grit sand paper and buff them out with polishing compound

Is it a must to re clear it? Or can you do like that other person said and just buff it with polishing compound?

Try using some Meguiars plastic-X polish and see if it does anything.

My gen1 where peeling so when I had my car buffed and waxed. I got the lens buffed and waxed too and it smoothed out the peeling now you can barley even see it!

Before pic of the peeling

look at the LEDs you can see the plastic peeling.

Buffed and waxed lens:

other lens

just buff and wax your lens.

P.S. I got new tires so don't say anything about my tires lol!!

Here both lens but hard to see with the reflections:

Just use a buffer and some coumpound and buff it off. Either way they will need to be buffed. Thinner and water wont mix but acetone and water will. then i would reclear em

by then it time for an upgrade to a diff gen If my lights did that I would just replace them with gen2 I love the CFF halos and style better then the gen1. Even thou gen2 has issues (burnt out Halos ect).

no ideal. I'm not the one that did it. I got the whole car done, whatever they used on the car they used on the lens.

You can buff the lights with the compound used for the paint... both will work. I used it on my tails when some ******* took a key to them.

I have the 35% tint on mine, but they come in clear as well. I love them, they look very good, not cheap at all. Definitely a good way to fix the peeling, and protect your lights in the future.
