Cobalt Grille
Cobalt Grille
I want to swap the stock plastic grille for an aluminum mesh one. I got the piece at the bottom in the center no problem (LS model), but I can't get the top one out, which is the same on the LS and SS... it appears to be connected somehow right on top of the badge... any advice?

can you get a chrome mesh for it?

hey man... i wanna see this new mesh grill.... I just bought my ss its black. and i was looking on ebay, theres a place selling a billit grill... before i think about buying that one... id like to see how the mesh worked out for you.
yeah, if u go to ebay, theres a site selling the billit for the lower fromt bumper. The front grill itself dosent have a billit one available yet. i emailed them just yesterday about the front end billit.... so ill wait a few days to see if they respond.
i personally hate the billet. looks stupid and u have to cut and shape the pieces yourself in most billet grill kits. i have the 06 cobalt and really didnt like the grille. it looks to much like a cavilear or however u spell that. so i did a bunch of research on grilles and i ruled out the billet. next i went to mesh. mesh looks sooo nice but at the same time you have to make it yourself and to me thats a cheap thing to do and it wont last probobly. maybe it will idk but i just didnt like the idea of taking 100 part off my car to put 10 dollars of chicken wire on my car. then the third thing i looked at was the newer turbo cobalts grilles. i realized they look like mesh with the design while at the same time begin part of the car. so i wound up going with that. and i love it. looks great and makes my car so much nicer.
as far as where are the bolts.. there are the clips on the top of the grille under the hood which im sure you noticed, second yes.. there are 2 bolts holding the bowtie on, and lastly i beleive that there are little plastic clips all around the grille where the grille meets the bumper. there are like 12 of them. kindof a pain in the ass the get them off. i put little pieces of cardboard underneath them but yea. anyways. good luck and i hope wat i said helped at all.
but regardless to wat i said, its all about personal preference. get what u like and be happy with it.
best of luck and enjoy your cobalt

I would think that making it yourself would be the smartest way to go....IF....you know what you are doing, you can do a high quality job, and you can get the wire mesh material for Cheap.
I know some good sources for wire mesh, namely, Custom Wire Cloth - Belleville Wire Cloth Co - Cedar Grove, NJ and Mcmaster Carr.
As far as cutting this stuff, I always use aviation snips, the Wiss ones with the yellow handles are the best.
You will have to find out the best way to fasten the mesh to the correct places, but if you know what you are doing, do it yourself is a good way to get this done.
