Pods, and gauges, when chosen properly and appropriately can be functional and provide useful information about the car's performance.
Last I checked no one was talking about putting fake gauges in their car...

I wish I could remember where I have seen a picture of a car with side airbags depoloyed that shows them coming out of the roof. Half Cent was trying to talk like they came out of the pillars and then someone posted up a picture of them coming through the roof, that picture should be made a sticky so that everyone can look at it. Why would the bags be behing the pillars, then the pillar would hit you in the face, that makes no sense.

Here's the picture. It appears to come out from behind the pillar but also from the headliner. I KNOW there is something behind the pillar. If you have side airbags it is safe to remove the screw and pull the pillar away. You will see the bag beneath it.

Helm service manual definetly shows the side airbag extending only between the front and rear pillars under the headliner. Doesn't state anything about any SIR related parts in the pillars themselves. Not sure what else you may have under your pillar.
Looking at part numbers, GM calls the side airbags "roof rail air bags".

Thanks, I think the one I saw was different, but that is definitely what I was talking about. Hmm, I don't know what bag you are talking about, I haven't had mine off yet.

Yeah, the bag appears to be attached under the pillar, but the pillar looks to remain intact. I wonder if there is like 2 bags that are connected to eachother. Man, if someone could get ahold of the Unigraphics files that GM uses to design these things, learning about these cars would be SO much easier.
