I don't think it illegal here to run Hid's in stock housing considering I pass at least 4 cops a day with them on. I've been bright lighted around 10 times But reading this thread I know I will have something to do...Lower my headlights. Mine are blue when you look at them outside but when you get into the car they have a white appearance.

not nearly as much as grabbing someone's toe when they stick their feet out of passenger windows.

i pull up to my local 7-11 during the day and i went inside to get money, i came out and a cop was there, he walked up to my car and was asking me about my headlights.

He's like are those blue lights in there? I was like yea there hids. and he was like you can't have blue lights, they need to be white, there gonna be blinding as hell to other people coming the other way, he then pulled out his code book from his cruiser and showed where it said white.

good thing is he was cool and didn;t give me a citation or a fix it ticket but just a verbal warning. he told me to be careful around other towns with those lights. meaning other cops from other towns will be worse then him.

he was a cop from my own town where i live i think thats why he didn;t give me a ticket cuz he's seen me before.
ur lucky you can even get away with HIDs, in cali ur only allowed stock factory lights. nothing aftermarket or brighter... pretty lame

here is a pretty good example to see what i mean..

here is cut off... see there is no light past a certain point

and here is no cut off and this guy is close to the wall.. imagine being 20 feet in front of this guy..
perfect example on properly aimed headlamps (first pic)

Man, the easiest way to get your head bitten off here is to mention HID and stock housing in the same sentence. Who friggen cares. Let people do what they want to their cars. I have passed many a car going the other way with HID lights in their stock housings, many different cars for that matter, and the number of them that actually blinded me are oh, let's see....zero. You wanna know who ends up blinding me? Dumbasses who have their lights improperly aimed, period. Halogen lights can blind you just as easy as HIDs can, all you need is one idiot who doesn't know how to adjust anything but his undies and you'll get blinded. Either that or those bastards who leave their high beams on while passing traffic, or just leave them on and not realize it, those are the worst ones. This HID in stick housing thing gets so blown out of proportion here it's lost all meaning.

he was like, thats from the factory nothing we can do. if its not oem then it's illegal i guess he was trying to say. he just wanted to be a ********.

but since then i angled my headlights down more so as not to blind people.

yea exactly
so you are saying that because he justtold you that they are illegal, and warned you, not to change them, but rather to be careful in other towns, he is now a ********?!!??!!

in my opinion, anything beyond 6000k color temp. is pure rice. For all of your information, you will never see any car with OEM xenon lights with color temps above this. Most are 4300k infact, only a few are 6000k stock. I especially can not understand why some people even consider going 10,000 or 12,000k, let alone actually purchasing and installing them in their cars! 8000k and above just looks obviously fake, everybody can tell. My question to anybody who buys these wierd colors is WHY? I will not even go in to what I think about people who use HID's in halogen housings....

In PA, the only way to not get bitched at is to use the HID in the projectors and keep the color temp under 6000K.

Cops know that anything extremely blue in reflector housings are usually the hid retrofit kits (Since only a very small number of cars actually have HID designed reflectors... most use projectors) and will pull you over for them.

Everyone I've known who put them in reflectors get bitched at by the cops while I have yet to be even asked about mine (I'm using 2nd Gen projos) in the million encounters that I've had.

Actually it is illegal to use the retrofit kits period if they're not D2S or D2R sockets (Indicative of HID Designed housings). The trick is just fooling the cops into thinking you're running stock ones.

Also, some cops in some areas may not care... which is probably the case in yours.

Either way, the General saying I live by is "If you blind the Cops, prepare for them to light you up..."

Anyways, its not the brightness of the HID lights as much as it is the glare. There isn't any headlights available for the Cobalt that are made with HID designed optics (Aside from the actual retrofit of the HID projos in the OE housings). The eBay projector headlights are not meant for HID, but work since they have much less glare than the reflector headlamps.

He was doing you a favor, giving you a warning, telling you other cops might give you a ticket for it.

Don't be so ingrateful.
