Cree led 4th Gen Headlight Mod
(Modded back in April of 2013)
So after having this kit in for well over a year with out any issues I'm now sharing what I have done. I feel anyone could do this mod and not have any issue with doing so. Unfortunately it's not just plug in play. The kit it's self is but, the headlights them selves have to be internally modified. The h7 inlet where the headlight sit has to be opened to roughly 7/8" or the size of a nickel. You just follow the how to open the standard headlight and then from there it's only a few steps.
You have to peel back the three tabs holding the h7 clip to the projector housing. Pretty simple a needle nose pliers will work. Then you use your Dremel to start opening up your h7 clip to the size I mentioned above. Once that's complete you then have to open up the projector house in which you just took the clip off. This will take a little more effort to do for those three tabs you pulled back you still need to retain in order to hold the h7 clip back to the projector housing. After both parts are done you just need to put the clip back on the housing and push the tabs back over the clip and it will be as if you never even took it off. Clean the light off of debris and start to put your head light back together. That's pretty much it. On with the pics. warrenb213 is the only other person that I know of that has done a mod like this as well. I modified mine before he did though I believe he just put his out there first thou. You will have to modify your rubber seal as well I just trimmed my with a razor to fit the bulb. Well enjoy.
Kit From v-LEDs note the kits they sell currently are only rated to 1800 lumens per bulb.
-2200 lumens rating per bulb
-long life span 30,000h
-perfect light pattern
-low temperature rise
-high reliability
-integral structure molding, excellent heat conduction and thermal radiation
-stainless steel dust mesh
-forced air cooling
-embedded CPU fan
The finished look
How they project with cut off
The stock 4th gen housing
The h7 clip off and modified (opened up)
A nickel in the h7 clip to see reference in size to open
Fitment and clearance
Fitment and clearance two
I did use about six pieces of Kleenex around and in the housing to try and keep as much debris as I could out of the projector.
Yes I really took the lights apart
The modified h7 clip back on the projector housing
Fitment of bulb in headlight
First power up
Cree bulb
Cree internal fan
Cree ballast
Back view of kit
Headlights back together
First view of projection

I had to modify the housing for the bulb to fit. The opening wasn't big enough for the bulb to go in the housing. I'm still using a h7. I just converted to cree leds
