Customizer charges up Cobalt

Customizer charges up Cobalt

The owner of Desired Customs enhances the Chevrolet for display in a Las Vegas specialty show.

By Larry Edsall / Special to The Detroit News

The new Chevrolet Cobalt is a car that figures to be much "desired" by young car enthusiasts. That includes 27-year-old Keith Losier, whose Desired Customs shop is preparing a 2005 Cobalt SS for the Specialty Equipment Market Association Show this fall in Las Vegas.

"Chevrolet hasn't had anything to compete with the [Dodge Neon] SRT4 and the [Subaru] WRX," Losier said, "but the Cobalt has factory supercharging and comes on [high-performance] Pirelli P-Zero tires and is getting a lot of attention. It shows that General Motors is serious about the sport compact segment."

Like many teenagers, Losier put an upgraded stereo system in his first car as soon as he got his 1995 Eagle Talon. He later took his hobby a step further and started Desired Customs, which designs and fabricates body kits in addition to doing aftermarket customization and tuning. Losier is involved in shops in his native Niagara Falls, Ontario, and in Grand Island, N.Y.

While the early work focused on "show," by the time of the SEMA show this fall, this custom Cobalt will be ready to "go." So, while the car may look finished with its special Gold and Orange Kandy Pearl Paint job, billet grille and carbon fiber hood, it just now is getting its high-performance, 13-inch brake package installed by Stainless Steel Brakes Corp.

For information, visit Losier's Web site at www.desiredcustoms.com.

I was under the impression that it's not open to the public? Is that incorrect?

Yeah.. most definitely...

I would think that for someone who has an eye for customizing cars and clearly can see what looks good.. they'd also be able to realize that website sucks.... I mean.. would they settle for that kind of quality on one of their customized cars ?

Hopefully they haveplans to get a professionally done website that actually represents the level of work they do on cars.

maybe that current website is done by the guy's kid who's still in elementary school or something...

Street graffiti is doing a cobalt as well great i cant wait to see it.

I seen one of there vehicles that was competing for GM DESIGN AWARD AT SEMA last year when my SATURN ION WON.

There great people over there.

The interior will be pretty nuts 20'' lcd with full car control throughout the entire system on screen.

Just an FYI as well the car is going to be twin charged. so all those who are looking for some good power be ready cause its coming in big doses.

Along with a carbon lip kit that replaces the SS factory kit or bolts on to the Cobalt Lineup this car is looking to be a great project

Thanks again

Keith

Oh wow, who's doing the twin charged setup???? I would LOVE to see that project work out, was disappointed to hear that Gravana isn't planning on mass producing their kit because of the troubles they ran into.

Don't get me wrong, I think the car looks great, but I'm more of a power girl myself. I don't mind SOME appearance stuff as long as it's not overdone and it flows with the car, but I'm not big on A/V stuff (unnecessary weight to slow me down, plus I prefer the sound of a kick-ass engine over a system any day).

we are working with a company that cannot be named but there into the industry greatly.

the kit will be available to the mass, there is alot involved thats why i must remain somewhat quiet on the matter until its done.

the build and install is being done by myself and my shop i own.

There will be tech articles in Performance Autosound From the build and some of the installs relating to it

Thanks

Keith

the wheels have now been changed

for my design for my SS for sema show.

the wheels are going different too many with the unknowns.

the company just finished developing the air ride for the car as well

so the list of new parts is at

CF Trunk
CF hood
Cf Roof
CF mirror covers
CF Body Kit (lip kit replacement)
Air Ride system
Big Brake System
Header
Intake
Cat Back Exhaust
Turbo System
Fuel System upgrade
Ignition system upgrade
Cams
Cam Gears
Flywheel
Clutch
20'' lightweight rims
custom billet grill add ins

Thats all i can think of for now concerning parts being made available the rest is goign to be all one off pieces from Desired Customs for the vehicle.

Thanks

One off pieces?

Thats great that you are gonna have some one off pieces, but who is doin your audio? and They are builing a fully custom kit just like with the vibe. Not tryin to knock you guys but I think this year is gonna be thier year cause comparing the ion to the vibe is no comparison cause they are in two different classes. Your ion is fully blown interior and the vibe was stock, EVEN STOCK RADIO and it competed with your ion. I would hate to see if they went all out this year which im betting they will.

Thanks for the support. We are still building the car and will try not to let anyone down.

Desired does do very good work, however, we do intend to be a strong competitor!

HI Chris long time no chat hope to see you at sema.

to whoever the other post came from.

My interior is 12 custom gauges all heads up display

and 2 20'' Panasonic LCD tvs controlling the entire car

full audio, video and engine monitoring on screen and controlled through pc.

should be pretty crazy interior. my ion has nothing on the interior we are designing for this cobalt.

As for who is doing my audio, its the same person that is doing the rest of my entire build. MYSELF

I run my own shop and have 4 guys working under me now. WE have came along way since last november and must say that i am extremely happy with the work we are doing.

my website will be finished soon and you can see some of the demo's and company's i have built cars for this year

Chris, cant wait to see the creation this year, if you need any carbon work or parts give me a call. love to help out other sema cars.

I have a hood and trunk going on the following companies for SEMA

Konig Wheels Ion
Air Lift company Cobalt
LJ garcia Ion
Nopi Cobalt
Gary Gardella Cobalt
Marty Ladwig Cobalt
along with a few other of the vehicle program cars.

Take Care,
