lefty loosie. Use an adjustable wrench instead of pliers to avoid scratching the paint

don't forget to hold the base inside the trunk with a pair of pliers too. I've heard of people accidently breaking the entire thing

Use a rag under the pliers if you don't want to scratch the antenna or car.

That would be what I did. lol. Its still held on with the rubber grommet but someone could simply pull it right off.

Also good advice on the rag. I got teeth marks all over mine.

Makes my decision to shave it sometime soon that much easier.

The pinch welds are already broken from the bracket. I removed the bracket and I'm using two adjustables. Still can't remove it! Way to go gm

yeah dont do it too hard else you break the screw off like i did. i was able to press the pinch welds back in though, and ended up taking the head off a bolt, drilling and tapping the antenna base, and finally putting it all back together. a five minute job turned into a few hours.

i ripped my aluminum bracket apart.... yea that sucked.... so basically you can blame GM. THey have an aluminum post with a steel antennae mast, different metals cause accelerated corrosion so the threads will rust out.... And the bracket gives LONG before the rusty threads....

I have the same problem, did you find a solution?

how did you remove the bracket? it's in my way and it's useless now that the welds are broken...

also I'm wondering is there a way to take the whole assembly out and THEN separate the base from the antenna mast once it's out of the car?

thanks

Why didn't I read this before I did exactly what you just did. I guess I'm off to a friends with a hand drill. fml

I got my antenna thing situated. And its pretty light compared to stock, so it holds fine without the bracket.. But anyone have a good solution to re-attach the bracket to the antenna base?
