Thumbs up Factory Fog Lights - HOW TO

ok to start with there are serveral people who like to spread mis information and break peoples spirits...this will bring back some peoples spirits

step 1. disconnect the battery both positive and negative
step 2 pop the hood
step 3 remove the fuse box cover thats in the engine bay
step 4 take a 7mm and loosen all the bolts in the fuse box
take a 10mm and remove the positive aux power post
step 5 unplug the wire that loops up and over into the fuse box
step 6 open the tabs on both sides and the back and lift straight up then loosen the 7mm bolts the rest of the way
step 7 set the fuse panel aside
step 8 remove the ecm
step 9 unbolt the fuse box bottom there are 2 13mm bolts that hold it that are located under the ecm
step 10 remove the coolant resevoir
step 11 remove the headlights and the brackets
12 start on the passenger side and start unclipping the headlamp wiring harness and installing the new one with the fog lamp plugs as you go it makes it easier self explanitory there put new one the same way the old one was
13 clip new fog lights into the ss bumper or lt bumper with fogs and plug them in
14 reinstall the headlamp brackets and headlamps
15 reassemble the fusebox with the new harness instead of the old one just follow steps 10-3 backwords
16 remove panel under dash and remove silver trim with the dimmer switch
17plug in dimmer switch and new fog lamp switch
18 hook your battery back up
19 enjoy your new foglights

note: i am NOT resposible if you screw up your car. idk if this works on all the cobalts but i know it works on mine

there is an extra plug on the wiring harness i believe for the intercooler pump either cut it off or ziptie it out of the way

not all cobalt bumpers can use factory fogs because GM cut the tabs off the ls/lt bumpers supposedly

this project isnt that expensive with used parts

the fog light trim panel... is obsolete none at any dealer in the USA

i will get pics asap i start work at my new job tomorrow so it might be friday before i can get pics.

also with the lights on it doesnt light up on the cluster that the fogs are on... im going to check into this some more and see what needs to be done for that light... im thinking maybe just a light bulb back there.

hopefully this will make a sticky because it is very useful info and will help several people

So this is installing a new front lamp harness with fogs and running it to the factory location on the fuse block and installing factory switches inside the car? Thats why the fog light "light" isnt showing on the gauges. The gauge cluster is controlled by the BCM and since the fogs were not factory the BCM doesnt know they exist or that there even on so the light doesnt show up.

This is what I did..
Run a wire from each fog light to each headlight
You can pick parking light or low beam, whichever you want

or you can run the wires to your own button with its own fuse

To get the fog light to show up in the DIC you need to go to a dealer so they can reprogram it

any way can take a picture of the harness that is behind the dash? I looked back there and i only seen 1 that had a few green wires going to it, but not plugged into anything. I have yet to really dig around in there and check really good, but i figured the harness would be out in the open
