Freak Accident!

Long story short, I was driving to work this morning, and the wheel on the car next to me pops off and hits my car and then bounces off mine and hits another in oncoming traffic. The girl who's wheel popped off has no insurance, and the plates wernet even registered to her car etc. So basically this is all coming out of my pocket because I have a $1,000 deductible. My bumper cover is pretty messed up and so I obviously need to get a new cover painted and installed.

I figured now is the perfect time to get the SS/TC bumper cover on my LT although I have a few questions:

#1 - if I get the SS/TC front cover, will it look weird if I keep the LT rear cover? will the front hang lower etc?

#2 - do I need to buy different side skirts?

#3 - do I have to buy fogs now? or can I buy inserts to cover the fog holes on it?

#4 - What grill do I need?

#5 - What different hardware/clips?

#6 - anyone have pics of an SS/TC cover on an LT?

#7 - and MOST importantly, where can I buy the bumper and grills from?

try a local scrap yard. you may get lucky and find an undamaged front bumper... i broke my glovebox and baught one off a wrecked SS/SC that had been t-boned on the drivers side, his front and rears were still in pretty much perfect condition. but that cars been long gone for a while now. but id check local yards.

The local yards near me have nothing newer than like a 2002.. If that. I'd kinda like to stay new if possible too.

Check out my sig and I might have a couple pics in my gallery of mine. Mine was a factory 2LT with fog lights so it was not a matter of adding them or not, they were already there. So far I haven't had the money to get side skirts or the rear cover...the only reason I got the front was due to a wreck and her insurance paid for it

  • all the 2005-2010 SS / 2008 Sport / 2009-2010 'sport appearance' cars use the exact same bumper cover.
  • You do not need a lower grille, and you can use your stock upper grille;
  • AFAIK, all Cobalts except for the SS/TC used the same upper grille
  • The only difference between SS/SC+SS/TC vs others with the bumper was the addition of the front lip kit.

I hope this helps!

Did you get information on the driver w/o insurance? ~ could you take her to small claims?

David i'm in the same boat you are, although I haven't been in a wreak. I just wanna start by buying the front SS/sc fascia and eventually work my way to the back. If you search "fascia" or "ss Fascia" theres a member in this forum that made a tutorial on how to swap the LS Fascia out with a SS Fascia. It will be a direct swap although you will need the wheelwell extension on both sides because the SS bumper sits lower and you need the extensions for it to meet the bottom hole. (you should be able to buy this at the chevy dealer). Or you can just leave it with the bottom hole not holding anything, your choice. Hope this helped

Thanks for the info man.

The biggest problem I guess is that I currently do not have fog lights, and the SS/TC bumper has fog light holes so I would have to buy fog lights correct? How would I go about wiring those up to a switch and what not... it would be a total pain in the ____ I think..... Is there an SS bumper without fogs?

Also, where would I buy the fogs and wiring from?

you should be fine w/o fog lamps for time being...

there should be the wiring already in your car for the fog lamps - you'd just need to attach the wire ends, fog lamps, change out the LH dash trim, and add the fog lamp switch...

Temporarily i'm going to buy a set off ebay to fill that hole and just leave them unwired, when i get the time ill be wiring mine up. If yours already had the fog lights then you can just swap them with the SS fascia. I would put them in if i were you.
This link should help you

Thanks man, your awesome! haha Well whoever gets this accomplished first, lets let the other one know how we did haha. I'm going to hopefully be buying a bumper this coming week.

Oh, and one more thing - will any year SS bumper fit my 09? or do I need an 09?

Will this work?

No problem bro. Where are you buying your bumper cover from? ebay, craigslist, or the dealer? Also if you get the front lower lip you'll need a Dremel tool and 12 clips to hold it on if you do it yourself. It's usually hard to find them with the lower lip already on it for some reason.

Wow they have a horrible picture for that. But yeah that apears to be the SS without the lip. I've found a guy on ebay that's previously sold many Yellow SS bumper covers. I'm messaging him to see if he has more. That would make it worth while if it's already Yellow!

Does anyone know if any year SS cover will work? For example that one is an 08 and my car is an 09.
