What are your thoughts on the possibility? I want to use the GT bumper because it has the 'skirt' or whatever you want to call it, that matches the side and front of the cobalt ss. And also to get rid of those ugly vents. The G5 and cobalt coupe both have a lip above the tail lights and along the top of the trunk, unlike a cobalt sedan. So, I believe you could switch to a G5 trunk to lose the unnecessary reverse lights. Also, the sedan tail lights only have two studs I believe, while the G5 lights have three and mount just like the round lights \/\/



If someone has tried this before and it didn't work, please tell me before I buy a bumper.

 

It'll work. You just need all the parts to come from the G5 Coupes. AceSSBalt is doing a Cobalt SS/SC to G5 "GXP" conversion on G5Club.net. The only reason he hasn't completed it was due to money issues and getting ahold of used parts. The Cobalt and G5 body are the exact same. Even the trunks are the same aside from the Cobalt's reverse light holes.

it should work since the ss/sc can fit on the g5 one of my buddies did it to his. one thing ive been curious about is does their trunk fit on ours cause i dont like the reverse lights on our trunks

 

I've thought about swapping lips with a G5 GT or an SS/NA.

I don't like the rear lip on my car... nor do I really need it, since I don't have any exhaust piping past my Rear Beam.

 

No i don't have reverse light on my car. Its been on my car for a year with no problems. Im not a big fan of the G5 bumper, i love the g5 trunk lid look though.

Yeah it was a direct swap. The biggest bitch was the locking mechanism, its a bit finicky to get out of there and you have to be careful not to **** up the tabs or else it won't go back in.

Yeah, traded for an 08 ss/tc. I couldn't resist the price of this one.

Have you tried fitting the bumper? Or still in the planning stage?


I feel a lot better about going ahead with this. If everything works like I have planned, I'm going to have the lock and third brake light shaved and the spoiler as well if the trunk I find happens to have one.

Are you that one that posted a swap a while ago? I remember a little but probably just glanced at it.

They are the stock coupe tails...



I've located almost all of the parts I need. I'm going to order just the bumper for now in case it doesn't fit.

 

Its just how the picture came out. The tail lights are stock. No i never made a thread on the swap, i just did it and went about my business. I show people when they ask lol.

Exact same trunk. Only difference is that the Cobalt has the provisions for the reverse lights.

 

There is a how-to on turning the reverse lights into taillights i believe

I guess I never really see them at night when there's a car with its' lights on behind me.

That would be tight if they really looked like that all the time.

Anyway I love that trunk. If you shaved the trunk lock it would look even better IMO.

 

Got a bumper from ebay. Fits great (for GM). Still need to get driver side tail light, G5 coupe trunk, G5 GT lip, and reverse lights (side markers are the same).
