GEN4 Projectors

Just bought these in Chrome:
DEPO Projector Headlights 05-10 Cobalt - Lights & Bulbs

Right now I'm running 55W 5000k VVME HID's in the stock housings but their only a low beam, no high beam.... the new headlights have low and high beam spots... can I leave the HID's for the lows? and the halogens for the high beams? will the wiring allow me to have both at the same time? or should I just use the HID's for the lows and leave the high beam bulb in for looks and not wire it up?

You will need new H7 bulbs, but that's it. The bulbs you have in your stock headlights will not work. So you need to replace them with the right size. Everything else will work fine. You will have HID low and Halogen high.

well Forum vet. You should be familiar with the search tool. Also going to the section of the forum in which ur question will most likey be answered and checking the stickeys. They are kept at the top so they are easily accesible to quickly find out the information new members are looking for. Then if you have a question not answered in the thread, in this case "THE OFFICIAL HEADLIGHT/TAILLIGHT THREAD:" post up your question within that thread so now the information to ur question, if not already covered in the thread, is now covered in a sticky'd thread and again easily visible for everyone to see and learn more about.

Yes, you just need 1 set of H7 Hid bulbs and put them in the low beams, and hook them up to your existing ballasts.

idk about DDM anymore. My friend bought a set of H1s to put in the 3rd gens I sold him and they didn't fit in the housing, the glass casing around the bulb was too big. We had to file down the spot on the projector that held the bulb. I tried the 8000k H1s I had from 3bspec at home and they fit perfectly without filing.

Yeah I was just looking at DDM's website right before you said that, that price is great. I'd rather pay that, then $60.00 a pair from 3bspec.

they dont all fit correctly but i blame the projector and not the bulb. pretty sure the bulbs are universal fit for that size, and the projectors have weird lips and bars trying to demand the bulb be shaped a certain way and since these lights are from taiwan i blame them. And...do u know the easiest 5 second way to make them fit? Modify the bulb, not the projector. The bulb has the plastic circular piece that is shaped to fit into the hole on the projector back. well, the projector is metal, the bulb piece is plastic. Its alot easier to cut and file plastic than metal quick file and itll pop right in. Id had no fitment problems on Gen 2's or 4's. Gen 1's and 3's needed to be filed a tad bit, but like i said its a 2 second fix

but it wasn't the base that was the issue, it was the glass part of the bulb, I couldn't get the bulb more than a quarter inch into the hole.

Oh i know exactly what ur talking about. I ran into that problem on a set of Gen 1's. It wound up being that the projector piece in the back, had whatever shape it has that the bulb fits in and its made of metal. Well at the bottom of that metal piece, on the inside of it, twords the cutoff shield it had a lip to it. Hard to describe. Im gonna illustrate.

Notice the bottom lip is narrower than the top. So the bulb would fit in like 1/4" and then get cought. Took me a second to figure out why. then after closely looking at it i realized it was b/c tthe bulb had clearance on top, but the bottom dimensions were smaller. Once again shitty projectors and had to file them to fit the bulb

Quote this post to see the illustration better i hope. when i post it eff's up the spacing lol

ok I see what you're talking about. ya that's exactly what my issue is. Your right I blame the projector too now that I understand what the problem was.
