H.I.D Issues
H.I.D Issues
I have been having problems with my H.I.D kit since day one. I purchased my 55watt 8000k kit from retro solutions in Feb 09. After about 3 weeks one of the bulbs started to flicker. Is was a very light flicker that you could not see on a video camera. The bulb stayed lit but flickered really fast like a strobe. This would only start after driving for about 5 min and starts and stops randomly at lights and while driving.
I insalled a relay harness and that did not help.
We replaced the ballast and that did not help.
I moved the bulb from left to right and the problem followed.
We replaced the bulb and it stoped for about another month and started again. I called retro back up and we replaced bith bulbs again. Another month another bulb started flickering again. We did this 3 times and I am right back where I started. My friend bought his kit the same time and never had a problem. Retro said they never saw a problem like this before.
My thought is the bulbs keep having issues but maybe something is making that happen.
Anyone else have this specific problem and found a solution.

It is a 07 SS/SC. I have not because all posts mention both lights flickering on and off. how would that cause one light to flicker and not the other? It is worth a try I guess. Did you have a similer issue?
I have anzo halo headlights with H7's. I do not have any other electrical accessories or changes to the car. All grounds are clean and paint free with a direct relay harness for both sides. As mentioned the problem follows the bulb that is having the issue.
The wierd thing is I am on my 4th set of bulbs and the issue starts again after about a month.

i had a similar problem that proved to be the live wire having a shitty connection.
we had to replace the barrel connector that ran to the ballast. check every electrical connection since it obviously isn't the bulbs.

If you catch it at the right time you can park the car and look into the headlight and see a faint flicker. Most of the time it stops before you get the chance to do that. I also checked to see if the housings were loose and they were not. Plus if the car is parked they would not move anyway.

Every set that I sent back to Retro was tested on a bench and the problem could not be duplicated.
This is what pointed me back away from the bulb. (but why when I replace it the problem stops for a month or so).lol
I will reclean all conections and remove the Daytime fuse to see what happens
NIGHTHAWK - I have the same headlights as you....

Which version of the lights do you have, the first revision or the second (In other words, is your CCFL inverters internal, or are they external (look for little black boxes outside of the headlight)
The 2nd revision of the 2nd Gen lights had more reliable CCFL inverters, but they are poorly shielded compared to the first ones.

I have the newest set. The set before was set up the same with the inverters on the outside. THe difference with the new sets are they do not have the long LED in the top of the light and have one less inverter.
The hid kit runs directly to the bulbs. They are not conected to the headlights in any way other than sitting in the housing. I can post some pic's on my profile of the headlights anyway.

Scratch the DRL fuse idea. It was blown anyway. I'm driving home now as we speak and no flashing for the first 2 miles. The left headlight just started flickering randomly. I just asked the person infront of me if my headlight is flashing at them and they said no and they can't see it. But I can see it on the back of their car
