Look out for the projector police on css.net!!!!...because they are the only people that will care. I've never been pulled over for it nor have I ever had anyone flash at me...and I've had mine in damn near since I bought this thing. Do it...you'll like the look...and you'll like the visibility improvement over the God awful stock bulbs. Seriously the stockers are so dim it's unsafe IMO... Just get HIDs...aim them properly...call it a day.

troof. Ive had mine for over 3 years now with no problems. i dont care what cssHIDpolice say.
Everyones quick to say whats right and wrong and blah blah blah. But when it comes to things like tint and whats legal and whats not and exhausts and whats legally allowed db wise and what not most of the cssHIDpolice are breaking the law there so why say stupid crap like "I hope the cops pull you over" and " id break those headlights with my chuck norris like strength". Excuse me, my fresh bag of popcorns ready.

I am proud to be called a member css.net HID police, somebody has to go around telling all of you guys you are wrong, if not me then who, mercury is not on any more and he was a big reason why I went retro, he broke the ground on it. Personaly I could care less what you do to your car unless it effects the safety of those around you. I get blinded on a daily basis by people with HIDs in improper reflector housings.

first off id like to thank ou for being an officer, i have alot of respect for you guys dont get me wrong, and i thank you for what you do even if your on the other side of the country, and my post was not aimed at you but more towards the other people who are the Al Sharpton's of css.net and then people just nutswing off of what they say, like a few guys in the 2.0 lsj performance section who could say hey if you put a dead squirl in the blower youll gain 15 whp and just because that member said it everyones like YAY SQUIRLS and dont even know why they said it.
My personal experience with the topic at hand is i belong to a car club thats run by 4 state police. Every Tues we meet up at the local starbucks and bs and just hang out. One of them was talking about my car one day with me and he actually thought the HIDs were factory and we got on the subject of blinding this and that and he said mine werent bad at all. Some cars can pull it off some cant.

yeah I had a guy in a civic SI come up to me and ask "How did you get your lights to look like that" because he could actually look at my headlights and not blind himself.

HIDs in the cobalt housing do not blind at all if you aim them. Ive never had a problem with my friends and there HIDs.

My Sunbird handles HIDs in the stock headlights just fine. It's a different style of headlight than a Cobalt, but nonetheless it works. Never been flashed either. I never tried HIDs in my stock housings on the Cobalt, I got them after I got my third gens, but a few of my friends have them and they're not terribly blinding. Brighter yes, but to the point where you can't see **** if they're coming towards you, no.

If you were to paint your reflector housing black would that help lessen the intensity of the HID's in the stock housing?

absolutly, if you paint the reflector in the headlights black, it's not going to reflect much light at all.

Would the HID's still be an improvement over the halogens then? Or would it just be pointless to upgrade to HID's without having a reflector housing? I guess what I'm trying to say is, will HID's still work as well in a blacked out reflector housing?

I think you're thinking of reflector in a different way than I am. The only part that needs to remain chrome for the headlights to perform is the reflector bowl that surrounds the bulb.

This is how you can paint them to still perform as well as stock

The pieces that are chrome here need to remain chrome for the headlights to function properly.

i gotta get a good night picture. this was kinda during the day, random shot. kinda looks like ass. ill take a new one
Are you stoned? Those look like ****. The gen 2's look like crap during the day, output is terrible at night, no matter what the cutoff shield looks like, they are just cheap halogen projectors with a narrow pattern and ZERO width.

Yeah I was wondering if it would still work if I painted the whole reflector bowl black with HID's. I know you can't have it painted with halogens because then it wouldn't work properly but was just wondering if that's the same case with HID's

It's still gonna be really bad even with hids. That reflector NEEDS to be chrome in order to reflect any light foreward onto the road. If you really wanna paint it black, the only way you're still gonna be able to see is if you retrofit an hid projector in there. Then you can paint the whole thing black.

Alrighty I just didn't know if the HID's would be powerful enough that they wouldn't need the chrome. But thanks for clearing that up
