It is but it isn't. It's better if you don't, but it's much cheaper and our headlights aren't bad compared to say an f150's

it IS technically illegal and cops are trying to make it more official but its hard to tell who has stock hids and who doesn't... the main thing is we don't have 'cut off lines' so it can blind people. that being said i've been running 8000k in my headlights no issues or making people crash... yet

well lets put it this way. Stock with hids is just a big blob of overly bright light all in one spot. Doesn't help you see much beyond that one spot, give a "tunnel vision" effect sorta. Hids in projectors have evenly spread light throughout a much greater surface area, evenly distributing light among a larger area, making it easier to see beyond just directly in front of you. Also has a cutoff so that other driver's aren't blinded.

Ran hids in my stock headlights for 5 years and no problems. I have had every color from 10k-5k. I have retros now for that more of a stock look, but our headlight housings aren't nearly as bad as some other stock ones with hids in them.

We have a 9007 6k kit on sale! PM us if interested. As for running them. Despite what others may way, our housings project the light very well compared to others. Really unless you aim your headlights higher then stock you will not blind people. But yes retrofits are MUCH better in the lighting department for HIDs

The kits for the retros are the same as the kits for your stock.

The "retros" are the projectors taken from cars with stock projectors in them (BMW's, Audis, etc.) and then put into the Cobalt stock housing.

Of course, the bulb for your retros would be different than the stock housing, but you can use the same HID "kit" (ballasts, etc.).

running HIDs in my stock housings, I re-aimed them down and have not had one person flash me, half the time I am blinded by others, people love to hook their high and lows up around here it seems. Projectors are definitely better as far as using the HIDs to their full potential. I plan to get a set of Retro's one day.
