New Brake Light Mod Idea

Thinking about doing a new brake light mod. Tinting inner lights red and installing bulb to act as another set of brake lights. Would it then be possible to sand off the red tint of the 3rd brake light and install white lights to use as a reverse light? Here's where I got the idea:

Dang, I don't need any more reasons to be pulled over by a cop.

Also, I want to avoid LED's because I've seen vids where there are delays between the regular brake light bulbs and the added leds. Switchbacks would be legit though.

ya, I've been lookin for a white/red switchback to switch out for the reverse light for a while as far as a delay... if all of your lights got em, you wouldn't even notice

Tail Lights LED Flashing

You'd only wire the reverse(white) to the inside then. Wouldn't the wiring of the reverse and brake light being used at the same time cause a problem....

I can figure it out, but I think I'm bout to order some of these

Maybe, jus run the runnin lights to em, an have the outer's work as brake lights, an the inners function as turn signals? or maybe both on one side be turn signals, an jus outers be brakes? I dunno how that'd work Ima order some jus so I can play with em

I can't find any 921(reverse light size) switchback bulbs. I'd want them to function as 4, normal brake lights (copy outers exactly), except for when in reverse, which idt is possible. I'll probably end up just buying red replacements for the reverse lights and wiring them to the outers. Then hook up some white strip leds behind the bottom grilles.

Try this on the inners:

Put an led strip around the inside of the tail light cover, hook that up to your brake lights. (Get red ones, or have the ring of lights just on the red part of the tail light).

Then you essentially have what you want.

EDIT: I actually think that's what they did here https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/how-...-lights-87841/

But just leave the reverse bulb hooked up (don't know if they did that or not, I didn't feel like reading it).

I don't think it would be possible for the bulb to be red for brakes and then go white during the reverse.

I would do this in a heartbeat if I was 100% sure there would be no delay between the inner and outer lights.

There will be if you're running stock bulbs on the outers and LEDs on the inners.

Just do the same for the outer lights as you would for the inners (ring of LED's) or just get an LED bulb and put it in there.

Try searching eBay. The brake light bulb size is 3157.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-3157-3057...item2c64aa850c

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-RED-36-LE...item2c64aa507f

There are a lot more listings for it too.

Or: http://autolumination.com/3157_3156.htm

Actually, I guess it depends on the year Cobalt:

Cannot sand red off of 3rd brake, it's red plastic not a red insert. Would have to vacuum form a new lens. 100% possible of you've got the patience, I've seen people vacuum form entire headlight lenses.
