HID warmup question

i see that HIDs have a 25 second warmup, during which you arent supposed to turn them off and such

since we have keyless entry, wont the lights turn on and flash when we press unlock, and then again when we lock them?

if this shortens life span of the HIDs, which it says it would, how do cars with HIDs stock deal with this??

you have to dissable it in the cars computer, you can do this by changing your settings.

I'd also imagine it wears out the ignition system if the light flash was on with the hid's.

There is a way you can bypass the headlights when keyless entry is activated.

I hooked mine up to a relay only to the low beam, so when I hit the buttom to unlock my door locks, only my taillights and my front signals turn on, because the headlights are wired to the highbeams when they are set when u unlock the doors.

Ok the headlight bulbs from the OEM have 3 pronges. One is ground, one is low beam, one is highbeam. When you take the wire to power your HID's you will tap obviously one of the wires off your OEM headlight bulb plug. The one you should tap is your low beam, so it turns on automatically at night for you when you drive. BUT when you unlock your doors the headlights do not turn on, because they are set on highbeam, and your HID(if wired by a relay will only light up when you turn on your car) if you use plug and play your HID's will turn on when you unlock your car, and turn on your car. Hope that helps

Yeah, just as eazyasone23 said, they are hooked up to your highbeam, and since none of you with HIDs have high beams it won't be a problem. Also... the "warmup" you speak of is called an ignition. 25 seconds is really long... Mine only take 5 seconds. But then again I have OEM denso ballasts.

Yes, when your headlights come on, that is your high beams. Your HID's don't work on high beam so it isn't an issue. Just hook them up normally and everything will be fine.

The headlights don't flash. They'll come on and stay on solid until a door is opened or 15 seconds have passed. Its to light the area around the car for safety reasons.

This feature can be disabled through the DIC customization menu. Its the option labeled "Eterior Lighting" or "Exit Lighting." Can't remember which.

sorry guys, the headlights dont flash, they turn on and stay on
i havent had my car for a month, and i just got it back, so i checked it out

so is 15 seconds enough time for the bulbs to warm up, so they dont cause damage if they go off?

i looked at the lights last night, and they didnt look like highbeams, but ill take your guys' word for it

Believe me, I designed and made an entirely new lighting system for my cobalt, when you unlock the car, it is the highbeams that are turned on.

You won't have highbeams, so this isn't a concern for you.

he is using a plug and play unit so the headlights will come on when he unlocks the door, the only way they wont come on in a plug and play unit is if he installs a relay. because the unit will have to be wired differently.

Okay having a relay wouldn't change that at all. Using a relay just means you are using a direct line of power.

The only way I could think that an aftermarket (crap) HID kit would have the lights turn on when the car is unlocked is by the input from the stock 9007 connector have the highbeams and the low beams go into the one switch.

Maybe IM way off since I only read the last three posts but if you dont want your headlights to come on when unlocking your car doors all you have to do is program the car that way. my yellow lights flash, but hte headlights remain off until i start the car. It doesnt require anything special. I have HID's and when I use my key fob to unlock the doors my lights do NOT come on. I start my car and they turn on, and if I shut my car off and get out they stay lit for about 30 seconds or so. You just have to set it this way via the thing that lets you switch from tempurature/miles/trip miles, coolant temp, oil life, etc. I think you have to hold one of the buttons in while your car is off.

i didnt know you could control ONLY headlights turning on and off
i thought it made all the lights either go on or off
