HIDs in 2007 (low beam is DRL)
HIDs in 2007 (low beam is DRL)
I have the 1st gen projectors and I am considering getting HIDs sometime soon. I have a question tho, would the HID be on all the time as my DRL? or would the HID disable my DRLs? Not sure if this has bee answered yet or not but couldnt find any answers. Thanks for any input.
You have to take the DRL fuse out of the fuse box under the hood when you install HID's. The DRL's send a lower voltage and that will screw up the HID ballasts/bulbs really fast.
X2, I have the 1st Gen projectors with HID's and I had that problem, like DoubleLP said if you take out the DRL fuse you avoid having future ballast issues. Also what Im about to say, alot of guys here will not agree but.....You may also want to consider installing a relay harness into the headlamps to avoid having the typical pass side lamp not firing, I had that issue as well and as soon as I installed the rellay and pulled that drl fuse, all my problems went away. JMO.
k then your hid's would be on on drl mode, the only way i can see you being able to make it work is to swith the wiring around with the bulbs to where your hid lows are on the highs circuit and the highs on the lows circuit, this means your brights will now have the drls, its much easier to just disable them with the switch
That is pretty hard to do because it is a plug and play type headlight and you would have to ruin the OEM plug for the headlights. It is just easier to pull the DRL fuse, and if you want DRL's still just turn on your headlights!
No as long as your headlamps have the factory plugs on them you just plug them into the same socket you would the stockers, DRL is a competely different circuit, all you have to do is removed the fuse and you will be good.
True Drl fuse is in a different circuit and just provides 12v comanded by the bcm so removing the fuse is the best alternative
Exactly. Before I did it I think I went through like 2 ballasts, it drove me crazy, so when I was told to pull the fuse that problem stopped but I had a continual problem with the pass side lamp not firing, so I bought a relay harness and installed it now my lights work problem free.
A week after I got my hid installed into my 2007 the DRL fuse blew and now the DRL is fully disabled and they still come on with auto lights at night. Lucked out I guess but YES they do stay on unless you remove or blow the DRL fuse w/e comes 1st.
no no no... if u go with 3bspec on here u can get the option for 10 bucks more and its a little black box.. IT WILL KEEP UR DRL !! their awesome hid's also !
also no fuses need to be touched or anything.. its all plug and play i also have gen 1 projectors
