How do I prep my valve head to be painted?

Its got like.. 70,000miles worth of .. well.. **** and grease and you name it ALL over it... how do I prep it for painting? I know obviously remove it but how do I clean that **** off before I paint it... I have some "gunk engine cleaner" would that be ok?

I used aircraft remover to remove everything, it strips any old paint and other **** that is on there, then rinsed it good with water. let it air dry and scuff any rough areas or where there may be some oxidation. then primer, base, and clear! ill try to post a pic of my valve cover i just painted.
