how do you clean your engine up??

whatsup everybody, my question of the day...

i was trying to clean my engine the other day, tried to lather in some engine degreaser on some metal parts on the engine like the s/c to get some of the grime off... then rinsed off the whole engine, trying to avoid the electrical connections for what it was worth.. in the end nothing really looked any better.

some people, however, have brand new looking engines all the time! what am i missing? no i dont want to take off my s/c to sandblast it, i just dont know what to do. gonna be getting some mrz performance goodies to make her look pretty this spring, cant have new ass looking parts with everything else looking like junk

any pointers?

Engine clear, I used engine cleaner and rinsed it all off. Then I let the car idle for a while to get everything hot then sprayed engine clear on anything that looked dull.

Hose it down to remove loose dirt.
Spray on some type of degreaser.
Let it soak.
Rinse.

Some parts can be rubbed out with a cloth. We have this stuff at work that we use on engine bays, tail pipes, wheel wells, that works really good. It's called green nitro.

yea thats what i need a power washer!

the dirtiest part of my engine seems to be the block nd supercharger...

thinkin ill scrub in some degreaser with a wire brush or something, let it soak for a while, then rinse good with a powerwasher...

oh also do you guys cover up all the elctrical components with like bags/ aluminum foil or anything? i'm afraid i'm bound to screw something up!

Simple Green on a warm engine then let it sit for a little bit then rinse off. Works for me. But then again I had to do it a lot to get it to where it is now (Damn previous owner)

Well most electrical connectors are weather proofed these days. To be safe though you could wrap some of them in foil. Also keep the pressure washer a couple feet away from the engine bay. Don't hold it like 3 inches from any electrical connectors.

Every connection is waterproof unless you have done some modding yourself. Just spray it down, get an old sponge and go over everything by hand. Get a heavy non diluted degreaser, even something like brake cleaner for the heavy stuff on the block. As far as the supercharger goes, that metal just doesn't come very clean, it's a fairly rough metal. My suggestion is to wetsand and polish it, along with your valve cover. It's easy to do and gives a much cleaner look.

Simple green FTW. Purple power works but stains the metal if you don't hose it off quick enough.

Got mine new in 06. that deff helps lol. Every time i wash the car i wipe down the engine bay.. Take off your s/c thats the only way to get it real clean. Purple power and a cloth works for me.

Yeah I personally don't see why people don't keep a clean car. Because it my mind your car says a lot about you. It took me two weeks of waxing, claybarring, washing, scrubbing to make it look like new again. The chick that owned it before me traded it in at the same dealership she bought it off of new and I was like wtf have you not heard of waxing a car?!?

I used WD-40 on my old car to de-grease it. I don't think I would use that on my 'Balt, though.
