how to remove stock shifter knob???
If you have the 5 spd, there will be a little cap on top (w/ the shift pattern that must be removed) and a screw underneath that that holds the knob to the shaft. After removing that screw just pull like hell and twist and it will come off eventually.
If you have an auto than I'm not sure.
But most that respond will tell you to search. Head to the How-To forum,,, you'll likely find what you need, or at least be ready to ask a more specific question.
Hope that helps

I don't know if it's the same for 2007, but for my 05 LS...
1. Twist the boot clockwise (I think) until it unclips and push it down so you can see the steel rod.
2. Pull up.
I did it about 4 months ago, so I think that's all there was to it... but I might be forgetting something. Again, that's for my 2005 LS, so I don't know if things have changed. I thought that the torx screw was only on the SS/SC?

the reverse safety is pointless anyways. you can take it off and it still wont go into reverse "by accident"... its there to make you feel better so you wont worry about throwing it in reverse when going to 4th, even though you really can't without trying to anyways. I took the safety thing off my cavalier when i put a new knob in it. I'll probably do the same with the cobalt.
yea our shift knobs suck! When I was leaving work the other day I went to shift into 2nd gear the damn thing flew off and hit me in the forehead. the little spring shot off and I had to drive like 5 miles with just the stick.
