I think I've figured it out!! (door/panel alignment)

Ok, so background first;
I have always had vertical chips in my paint at the back/top of my drivers door, as well as the same spot on the door opening;
I also have wind noise from the front of the drivers door (roughly where the mirror is)...

I have touched up the paint several times, the latest being last Friday night;
once again the paint is gone where I touched it up...

I think I've figured out the source of my problem;

Door alignment

I'm pretty sure what is happening, is when the door is closed with any real force/momentum (I mean it's not like I slam my door, but sometimes it has slammed itself), the tops/rears of my doors are actually hitting the door opening...

Does anyone know if the GM service manual has step by step instructions for setting the doors?

I have fully intended to buy a GM service manual, but this might just be another reason to get it sooner...

(any other thoughts??)

I'm so "hands-on" that this didn't even occur to me as being something that the dealer would take care of...
thanks for the idea.

I'm at aprox. 13,000 km's (8,000 miles) right now - but most of that is becasue of my extended road trip down to Portland OR, then Redondo Beach CA... (I bought the car at the end of February this year)

but it probably doesn't help that the last time I had an assembly/body type issue I was told by my selling dealer that it was my problem;
(if you want to read it, highlight below, otherwise just ignore this bit)
My last issue was this:
The sub was not properly installed at the factory, resulting in the mounting hardware fatiguing/pulling through the metal (one stud is permanently stuck in the rear half of my original sub case);

The reinforcing washers which are supposed to be between installed the sub and the sheet metal (to prevent the stud from being overtightened, and being pulled into the conical recess in the sub mount)were all sitting on my spare tire;

My dealer told me that I did it, cited some light scuffing on the sub (which I later wiped off) as proof*, and told me that it wasn't something covered under GM's warranty...
* = if anyone can clearly explain to me how hitting my sub would result in it essentially pulling off of the sheet metal, please explain this to me - if the metal was pushed in, ok, but it was pulled out.

Even trying to talk to the district manager has proven to be a waste of time (I've been ignored after half a dozen emails)...

I ended up buying a replacement sub (for the rear half because I haven't a clue how to extract the hardware from it), and all new hardware from a wrecked car...

I have 3/4 of the keyways straightened out so that the original hardware can be installed, but hte 4th one that I haven't yet figured out how to fix is the keyway that is the forward most/highest one - I don't have any access to the backside, and am not too keen on hammering the sheet metal a couple inches below the rear glass...

So much for a warranty when the dealer makes an issue like this over $27 (@ full retail) worth of hardware.

I did get one of my headlights replaced (by a different dealer) after condensation had been in it for a couple weeks - that was nice.

I think I'll step out at lunch to talk to the local dealer which did my headlight...
