I am going to be installing leds into my headlights and i was wondering what type of resistor i should use. I bought these 2X LED STRIP 48CM WHITE MOTORCYCLE DASHBOARD UNDERBODY | eBay

 

This are 12 volt strips no resistor needed. Why did you buy 48"? No way you will get 4 foot of LEDs into the headlight and the offcut isn't useable.

I bought them because i didnt know how much i was really going to need.

 

dude youre in canadaland and you cant read the difference between cm and inches? its a foot and a half give or take. 4 feet of leds for 11$ would be a steal.

 

I am only asking because the guy i was talking with (supernovanator) just installed some and they just went out. so we figured that it was because of the voltage.

 

well i am sure there is a way to just use the leds seperatly and use the wire to string them together so that there is no waste. it was 11 bucks and i didnt care how much i was really going to use.

 

Yeah a few of my lights have gone out. I'm going to redo a set of headlights then take these apart and dissect the LEDs. It could also be a bad strip of LEDs, or that my little brother played with them hardcore when I wasn't around. If I find out he touched them he's dead though.

 

Ya I would kill him to. I have taken the lens off and am waiting for the leds to arrive (should be here tomorrow) but i would like to only do it once since it is such a pain in the ass. have you only had one strip go out?

 

Funny thing is, it is on both strips. It started with 1 bulb burning out, then a few more. BUT, the amber turn signal ones, which are quite a bit less bright, have nothing wrong whatsoever. The white ones have a massive power/ground wire, but the amber ones have a very small wire, maybe half the diameter of the white ones. I think they used too big a capacity wire honestly.

 

BDo you think a resistor would help?

 

I'll let the others chime in because I am not a pro at electrical, but I would think so.

 

does anyone who what type of resistor (what ohm and size) to get and where to get it locally if possible?
