People tryin to make it something its not is stupid.

so the wing makes the SS what it is huh? interesting. I could of swore it also included the side skirts, rear valence, front bumper, 18"s , and a lot more more. But i guess i was wrong. its just the wing.

but congrats on the spoiler man. you got a hell of a deal and if u like it thats all wat counts.

And I'm tired of little rich boys acting like everyone can afford a $20,000+ car. I'm tired of fanboys thinking that their $20,000 american econobox tuner is a $100,000+ porsche 911 turbo, and that they have to act all bad-ass on the roads just becuase they have a big wing and a supercharger. Yet, I manage to respect others.... what a concept!

Who cares whether his decision to buy the SSSC wing will cause others on the road to think your car is slower? You're not street racing, are you?

Yeah seriously. Why do you guys care so much if people think your car is fast or not. It gives you the edge if they think its slower. But instead you don't want made fun of becuase it is considered "slow" becuase other people beat it. So becuase you don't want made fun of, you make fun of people like me. What the hell? If you want the fastest car that everyone respects go buy a skyline or some other rich ass car. My crappy neon broke, and I had to get a car right then, and this is what I could afford. I'm sorry im not as financially carefree as some may be. But I do enjoy my car, becuase I work hard for it everyday. I'm very happy that I'm getting it. Especially if it pisses you off now. Expect pictures!! Why on earth would you be mad becuase I put a wing on my car. Am I putting stickers all over it NO, painting it some rediculous cross color between pink and yellow NO, am I spray painting my steelies NO (Upgrading the rims after my vacation this summer ... No it will not be "SS" rims.) I don't understand why some of you get so pissed of becuase others want something they can now have. That you once used to be excited about. I will never put "SS" seats in my car, or "SS" Badges, pretty much anything that says "SS". The only thing that is on the outside of my car is "Cobalt". I do plan on getting performance by the end of the year. Ill be up to about a grand in a month, so I'm not just going all appearance. But why some people deserve they need to make stupid comments becuase theyre car says "SS" is beyond me.

BTW: This thread is just going downhill, How joyous, Please just lock thread.

I was not intending to hate on you decision I just believe there is no point in putting visual stuff on if you don't have the power. If you like the wing thats good. But I can almost assure you that by putting on the wing people will now want to run all the time. I love my balt I didn't think I would get another car until I was out of college but things just kind of fell into place. If you like it keep it.
You brought up rich. from the looks of your house you've got some money or your parents do.

Wow, I'm really feeling the love in this thread! I've been on lots of other car forums (specifically 3G Eclipse forums and Focus forums) where some folks mod for appearance and some for performance. Having just flipped a Focus, I'm much less interested in being the fastest thing on the road...but pretty, that's another story. Just because you SS owners had the funds to make the initial outlay for an SS doesn't mean that those of us who didn't, but want to make exterior improvements later, make you look bad or "sully" your SS's rep. Man, back off already!

Clean, my baby (I've dubbed her "Coby," how original, huh? After calling her that for a day or two as an interim nickname, it stuck, and seems to fit, since I'm a bit of a tomboy myself and my car follows suit) is also a Blue Granite Metallic LS with a factory spoiler. I'm not particularly fond of the SS wings because the sight picture out the back window is small enough without putting that in the way, but they do look nice from outside. Mod for appearance all you want. There will be those of us that appreciate it to cheer you on.

Oh, and cashstacker, if you read the captions and stuff on his pics, he seems to live in an apartment and pay rent. Oh, and where did you see pics of his "house?" All I saw was a two car garage, possibly belonging to parents. Even if parents have money, it does not follow that they buy everything for their children. One must cut the apron strings sometime.

Did you not see I said you or your parents house? how am I supposed to know whos house it is? The picture I saw was one on his cardomain. The house next door looked nice and usually they don't build a nice house with a shitty one next door. So judging by the nice house his arguement of not being rich or not having money dosn't cut it.

Cash can you post this cardomain site? I dont remember ever making one, as I went to make one once and the site was down or something. Anyways thanks Danariel and welcome to the site . And cash, maybe I didn't have as much money as I did when I got the car "Or didn't forsee that I would be able to spend as much as I can now". Either way I'm still happy I got my base instead of ss. Im happy with the amount that I can still spend (not on rent untilities so forth). Anyways, I got it yesterday, and it took 2 days to ship, perfect condition, was still wrapped up (Brand New). And coincidentaly, I prefer to just go for performance before appearance. I'm saving for a turbo/supercharger (if gm releases it) And depending on how they perform. I just happen to notice this, and at the incredible deal it was at, I could not pass it up. I have yet to put it on my car, and most likely won't for a little while. I don't feel the car is "Ready" for it. So do not assume I just throw it on and race every person out here. I stated earlier I don't even race anyone, so whatever its all good. Anyways I'm happy, prolly as happy you are with your car. But respect other people's taste. Not everyone wants the same thing with their car, or else it would be really borring everywhere.

I think I see what's going on here. People that have an SS get mad when LS or LT owners dress up thier ride like an SS. Personally, I see no problem with a spoiler. It's not like you're putting an SS or SC badge on the car. That, in my opinion, would be crossing the line. I only say that because an SS or SC badge isn't there for the appearance... it's there because of what's under the hood. Putting the badge on is like false advertising, or worse yet, posing (think white boy from the suburbs dressing ghetto... and please don't take that as a smack on LS or LT models... it's not meant like that).

But as for a spoiler... nothing wrong with putting a nicer spoiler on your car. Would these people get mad at larger wheels on an LS or LT model simply because the SS or SS/SC comes with them? I don't think so.

Personally, I'm buying an SS this weekend. I kinda like the SS/SC spoiler myself... but I'll probably keep the SS spoiler till I buy an aftermarket one (if I even change it).

Furthermore... I don't know how you can get mad if someone puts a spoiler on their car and it makes the car look more competitive. What if that LS or LT has a few goodies under the hood and chassis? You worry about racing so much and street rep for the SS or SS/SC, but what if that LS or LT pulls up to another LS or LT that wants to go? I doubt a lot of these people even race on the street anyway. And if you do race, then you wouldn't care what anyone else had on their car... even if they had an SS/SC badge on it. You'd know that you'd take them anyway.

Bottom line... congrats on your new purchase and don't let anyone else get on you about it. It's your car afterall.

Sorry wasn't cardomain it was pic you had: https://www.cobaltss.net/gallery/sho...=3&userid=2851 personally I could care less what you do to your car if you like the spoiler put the spoiler on. Once you get ths sc or turbo I have a feeling youll be raping some ss/sc's seeing that you have a bigger engine. And it's not really about making it look like an ss/sc I think is dumb it's about putting wings and body kits w/o backing it up performance wise. To me that falls under ricer tactics. I'd rather put my money into performance and have a sleeper. But what ever suites you. hope you like the spoiler

My take on things is that certain factory appearance options are reserved for certain model levels. SS/SC wing being one of them. The SS n/a has SOME of the appearance aspects of the SC model like the front bumper and a different rear bumper and "mid level" wheels to set it apart from the base (LS/LT/LTZ) models. That's the way it should stay.

When people with a certain trim level decide they're going to put on the exact same factory appearance parts as the higher level trim, they're going to get **** for it, as they should. It's not a Cobalt-specific thing either, just like people who put Si wings on non-Si model Civics. Or worse yet, people who put Evo or STi wings on Lancers or WRX's. It doesn't belong on the car and gives the appearance that they're just jealous they didn't get the higher trim package. If it was an aftermarket wing or something that's actually unique and not a copy cat of another trim level, then I'd have more respect for it.

LOL "SS" owners are so funny. THey complain about bages being on the slower cars( base models) But yet they are the first ones to de-badge there rides. If u got money to put out for your ride to look better than stock...you have my vote on whatever u want to put on it.

Putting badges on a car they don't belong on and debadging are two TOTALLY different things...

I'm going to comment on this since I own a 2.2 and not an SS/SC or a RL.

The spoiler on the SS/SC is one of its defining attributes, its a way of identifying the car. Just like when you see the wing on the STi, or the huge front mount on the Evo or SRT-4. Adding this wing to your car to me, is like imitating one of their defining attributes. Id even consider it somewhat rice, its identical as putting an aluminum wing on a pretty much stock car. Not to mention, it does not match at all. You are mixing aggressive styling with the subtle styling of the LS model and it looks terrible together. Not only that, but with 90% of SS/SC owners feeling that their car is superior and thinking that modding anything other than the SS/SC is a waste of time, would just make me want to further unassociate myself with them in terms of looks. It would make me go out of my way to separate myself from the looks of a Cobalt SS/SC and make it clearly visible that this is a modded LS and not a SC'd wannabe. Create an image for yourself, don't imitate another models look.

I don't really agree with you there. Maybe more like 10% of SS/SC owners but you're pushing it even at that. Mod whatever the hell you want to mod. If you can make a sleeper car out of a 2.2 more power to ya. I know people that have the econobox Cavaliers complete with unpainted bumpers who can outrun just about anything.

And yet I've seen on MANY forums, not just this one, people say the reason they want the SS/SC body kit/wing is so that they can be "unique" .

maybe some of us want the ss/sc spoiler b/c it is the only one that looks good. but what if we get another body kit like gravana or rk sport and then have a ss/sc spoiler are we still imitating you. and just maybe some of us are show kind of people who dont like going fast and getting tickets or in wrecks or killed we just want our cars to look good and look better than other cars.

Yes and no. Adding it imitates the SS/SC look. It doesn't claim to be an SS/SC though. Like I said earlier, 18" wheels are standard on the SS/SC. If I put 18" wheels on my SS, would I be harrassed for imitating an SS/SC? No, it's just styling. If you add the badge, that's where you start to make claims that aren't true.

Purely opinion. While you and I may not like the look it creates, some might. To each his own.

Not necessarily true. As AlleyCat58 said... you'll have some that think that, but nowhere near 90%. Modding isn't about top performance possible. If that was true, people wouldn't bother with a Cobalt. They'd buy something a lot more powerful and mod that. Modding is about taking what you have access to (and what's yours) and changing it from stock. It's a passion and a hobby that many get into just to feel the excitement when they create something that is unique or at least rare. Adding a spoiler that comes standard on another trim can be part of that. You might think a good amount of people do that, but that's based on what you read on here. There are plenty of Cobalt owners that aren't on this site. The spoiler would make it somewhat rarer (meaning an LS or LT model with an SS/SC spoiler).

For the record, I don't like it. I wouldn't do it to my car. But this isn't my car we are talking about. I don't care what spoiler someone puts on their car. The only time I'd care about someone putting something on their car is if they stuck an SS badge or SC badge on and it wasn't true. But then again... who am I to stop them?
