Question Which OEM Leather Steering Wheel??

Hey all... I've decided to upgrade from my plastic-ish steering wheel with only info buttons, and buy a leather wrapped steering wheel (with cruise/audio buttons) to put in my '08 Cobalt LT2. I see the one on eBay (part No. 25870040) with the ebony (black) leather.

Is that the only option? Wondering if there are other color leather, or if that's the one I should get. My interior plastics aren't all straight-up black. Combination of black and gray. I'm not sure how to determine my interior color code (if I even need that to determine which leather steering wheel to get).

Thanks in advance!

I saw on eBay a tan leather steering wheel from a malibu.. maybe they might have a grey leather one. I know there's a grey suede steering wheel from a Corvette but more expensive..

OK, so I did a bit of research. Looks like my color code is (14I) which is light gray. I guess the ebony one is the correct one? These pics are of a '10 model, but this is exactly what the inside of mine looks like. Would the black leather steering wheel look so bad?

The black (ebony) is what matches the dash, i'd say go with that.

OK. Basically I wish I'd gotten these two options:

N34 - 3 SPOKE LEATHER STEERING WHEEL
VY7 - LEATHER SHIFT KNOB

For the shift knob, I don't really want to spent ~$90 on the GM Accessories leather shift knob with stain/nickel middle. I'm hoping to get just a leather knob... I can't seem to find a picture of it ANYWHERE. Help?

Also, I'm looking here: A SHIFT CONTROL/AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (MN5);. Fits: Cobalt, G5, Pursuit | Nalley Buick GMC Brunswick at the 1st and 3rd part numbers.... (20849735 and 22706232). Not sure which to get for my application... can't tell what the difference is between them.

Oh yes and they look best but I think you lose the info and cruise control :/

And I think it might look odd at first if your dash looks grey but idk your choice

I want to get a leather shift knob as well.. I had a full leather on the cobalt I had before it got totaled.. looked awesome

Is there any way you could possibly swap the controls into the new wheel? Seems like it could possibly be done.

And this may be a dumb question, but can you just swap your airbag into it as well?

The Ebony one is BLACK, just like the SS has. If you find a light grey one, it will be the same as what's in your car, the SS/NA, the sport and some of the LT2s in 2010 came with them, just depends on the color of the interior. Get whatever matches your air bag or it will look odd.

They swap straight out, the controls sit separate from the wheel. The wheel bolts down in the back, then the controls, then the airbag from back to front. You could even get a corvette wheel if you wanted to.

So I got that brand new leather steering wheel this week (part # listed in the first post on this page).... it was the right color and everything. Only thing I noticed different was the backlight colors for the info/DIC/volume buttons was red instead of the greenish-whiteish that it was before. The part I got must've been for a Pontiac G6. The other part I saw in parts catalogs with the white backlighting was ~$50 more. Oh well. I'm very happy with the new wheel.

Basically changed the plastic wheel (pictured right) with only Info/DIC buttons for the leather wheel with additional volume/track/channel buttons. I can now control OnStar with my voice... if I used OnStar. Would love to use Bluetooth, so I might investigate a new headunit - either an OEM GM one w/bluetooth from another car, or an aftermarket Sony/Panasonic/etc.

Also changed my plastic shift knob for the leather/satin/nickel one. My hands should be a little more comfy from now on.

I have an '08 LT2, which already had cruise.. and OnStar (with the microphone built into the headliner). From what I'd read (and now experienced), I needed nothing but part # 25870040. No wiring harness, no visit to the dealer. I just did it in my driveway in about 25 minutes.

If you have an '08 LS, without cruise, with possibly a base radio, you might search the threads on this topic... I don't think it's as easy for your car. Good luck!

If you have an LS you will need to fabricate the wiring for the radio, its not in the car, I did this swap 4 years ago
