ok.....more bowtie questions...SORRY

ok guys, so ive been searching for about an hour plus on how to paint bowties and im still confused.

im really good with paint so thats not the problem, but i cannot seem to figure out from text how to remove the rear one...it seems like a hit or miss/break/scratch your car thing
anyone have a good way???

and for the front one, i guess it pops or screws out???
can you seperate the gold from the chrome???

thanks a ton

use some strong fishing line... or get a hairdryer and heat up the rear bowtie a little (not too hot) then get it off with some dental floss. It's stuck on with double sided tape.

The front bowtie has plastic posts sticking out of the back of it and it is held on with two threading nuts. Be really careful getting it off or the posts may break.

As far as I know you can't seperate the gold from the chrome... so just use some painters tape along the seam between the gold and chrome and you should be just fine.

Take the rear one off and throw it in the garbage. Then unbolt the front one scuff it, clean it mask it, spray it with some adhesion promotor get some color matched spray paint from your dealer paint it and put it back on the car.

make sure that glue that holds the rear emblem on is nice and hot before you try to it off. i wish i would have thought of the fishing line thing when i did mine. the front one is like a 10mm i think correct me if im wrong. u gotta weasel your hands down in there or take out yur grill... its not hard to take it out, just some clips and plastic push tabs... just be careful and take your time and you wont have any problems

You want the rear emblem uncomfortably hot-to-the-touch before beginning to pull on it so the glue is soft and pliable.

The front emblem is held on by 2 10MM nuts -- use a nut driver or 1/4" ratchet. You do not have to take off the grille to get to it.

the front bowtie isn't too hard to get off, just takes patience.... i popped off the push clips in the top of the grill to make it easier to get at... as for the back bowtie i plan on doing mine tomorrow, but i am just going to pain it on the car... just mask it off and cover the back with an old bed sheet or something.

Once I take off emblems/decals I soften the glue with Prep-All (degreaser and wax remover available at Autozone) then I use regular wax to finish removing the glue. Takes a couple of applications but all the glue comes off and the paint is glossy afterwards.

I was lucky. I debadged the day I got my car, and was only manufacturered the week before, so the tape hadn't really set up yet. I hit it with the hair dryer and it fell off clean. I didn't have to scrape anything.

The front really is quite easy. Use a deep well socket if you have them, your standards may be bottoming out on the posts. I was able to reach from the top.

I've got some annoying scratches on mine too; they are right where the corners of where the symbol was, so you can tell the bowtie had been there. Can anyone recommend a product to get rid of the clearcoat scratches? SC07 and I would appreciate it.

I just removed rear and gm on sides last Monday. Took 5 minutes. Heat gun on it for a couple of minutes. Fishing line at one end and pull and wiggle. Goo-be-gone of glue and heat gun. Very easy.

you can probably use the swirl remover but unless they are real deep, the buffing should clean that up nicely
