Paint & Body Work

Hey everyone. I have been on the site for a few months now. I own an 06 SS/SC. Just wanted to let everyone know that I manage a paint and body shop and if anybody has any questions pertaining to that I will be more than willing to help you out.

This is an awesome sight.

Depending on how much damage there is to it and depending on what shop you go to you are probalby looking between 350 and 500 dollars for a quality repair. DO not be tempted by those off the wall shops that say they can do it for $50. You will not like how it looks.

The entire rear bumper has to be painted and removed from the vehicle. If you paint just a portion of it which is known as a "burn-in." It will look good for a couple of months, but you will eventually be able to see where the paint ended. The right way to do it is to remove the bumper from the car and paint the entire thing.

I am a production manager for a body shop and have blended many panels, all depends if you know how to tint paint. we just painted a 2006 bmw m5....perfect. By the way, that car is an orgasm on wheels....drove it for an hour and a half.

Around $275 dollars if there is no other damage other than a couple of light scratches.

So am I and they were talking about "spot-ins" or "burn-ins" being noticeable after a few months. Glad to have another paint and body guy around here.

I love having someone who has no professional experience on this topic tell me how to do the work. If your father has been doing paint and body work for that long then I am sure he is very good at it. My mom has been an accountant for over 20 years, but I will never give anyone accounting advice. Moral of the story, just because your Dad is good at it does not mean that knowledge automatically transfers over to you.

Im aware the entire panel would need to be pulled off, my argument is the $500 to paint over some light scratches. Sounds like alot to me. But I am new to this.

The approximated price of between 350-500 should include the removal and installation of the bumper. Go to a local body shop and get an estimate. I bet they will all be within that range.

if you have scratches on both sides of the bumper cover, your best bet would be to paint the entire cover. blending one panel on both sides and meeting in the middle is never a good thing....

Im not saying blend, i don't want that, but its not like my bumper is some huge piece or that its so hard to coat one bumper. Seems like painting is overpriced IMO.

A lot more money than you want to spend. I only reccomend complete paint jobs on restorations. Anything else is a huge waste of money.

I will help you out here.

My cost to mix 6 ounces of victory red basecoat (Dupont) is 38.67
My cost to mix up 8 ounces of clear coat including activator is 70.24
My cost to use 4 ounces of primer is 21.03
My cost to use 4 ounces of sealer is 29.03
I will have to pay my technician $42 to remove and install the bumper
I will have to pay my painter $39 to paint it

Total cost is $239.97 That is what it costs me to paint your bumper if we have to do absolutely no repair work. That does not include what it cost to run my heated paint booth ($4.83 per minute). Hope that helps you understand the cost of paint and body work
