Paint

I have the same problem on my rims and I have fingerprints in the paint on the back side ot the rim. My dealer has agreed to replace 3 of the rims at this time. I only have one with no paint problems. That is what happens when you use cheap labor outside the good ol' USA !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well my car has been at the dealer since Monday sitting on a hoist . GM decision was , since this problem has been seen in so few SS's , they couldnt garantee it would happen again if they just went ahead and gave me 4 brand new wheels . Which IS understandable if there hasnt been enuff problem cars for them to investigate the process in which the wheels are painted . Its a wierd process , I have stripped a SS wheel , they use a layer of black powder coat , then what looks to be a powdercoat with a metal dust in it , then they put a traditional type cleat coat over it . So GM authorized the dealer to send my wheels out to be refinished . I dunno , I was kinda pissed about that ...but , the dealer swore up and down the finish would be as good or better than factory . Plus the refinished wheels carry an additional 3/36K mile warranty thru the people who refinshed them .

So in light of , I was happy . I'll post pics of the new wheels when I get the car back , which should be Friday or Monday .

When I had my car, now it is gone, they did the wheels and it looked bad ass. Much better then factory. They told me that the guy who did them even "rounded" the wheels. to bad I don't have any pics to show you.

Wheels came out goooood . They matched the color about dead on , but the clear topcoat is so much thicker and shinier than the stock finish . Weather us supposed to awesome Thursday , so Im gonna Zaino the whole car , I will get pics then .

If you were serious man , they will be avail in about 7-10 weeks

I had the same problem with 1 of my 4 rims. Stopped in at the dealership (Lakeshore Chevy in Cleveland) The service manager didn't even look at the rim, he stated that paint defects are under warrenty for 3 yrs/36000 miles. Ordered a new rim with no hassle.

I had mine painted and the dealer's body shop manager told me that the 18" SS rims are a bad design! I was pissed about that! He told me they WILL flake again, porbably on the way home and that they wouldn't fix them again. Well..... Two or three weeks have gone by and they are worse now then before! I haven't gone back in yet.... What do you guys think I should do?

Man where do some dealers come up with crap . They dont have a choice , if it happens a 1000 times in the warranty period , they HAVE TO FIX IT . For crappy dealers , go above their head and call GM directly . Dont put up with ignorant BS answers .

Its not a bad design . Its nothing more than a Batch of wheels that were not properly cleaned and preped for painting or the paint was not properly cured in between steps , unfortunately when something like this is built in volume , it happens some times . I doubt every SS wheel will have this problem . The shop that refinished mine said the hyper black finish on the SS wheel is very dependent on properly curing the wheels in between the 3 paint steps for proper adhesision , in addition to the proper prep of the bare aluminum .

SilverSS/SC hit it on the head...they dont have a choice...go back to them, bitch again. If this doesn't work do your best at being the biggest pain in the ass to them and go regional.

It really doesnt make sense how a dealership can say that we will repair them this time, but it WILL happen again and we WON'T repair it next time, when it's all under warrenty...that is true BS!

happened to my gunmetal finish rims too. takes more than a week to get the car back. bound to happen again, i bet? or is it perhaps a problem with the undercoat/primer and not just the rim finish?

I am getting my wheels fixed at Nu-Brite in Langley and the one they did last year still looks great. It all depends on how and what they paint them with.

I have one small "chip" from when I had my tire repaired. Just the tire rubbing on the paint removed it. I asked them about it and they showed me that their mounting machine never touches the wheels. If it gets worse, and the dealer won't do anything I'm gonna get mine powder coated the same color. Shouldn't come off then.

Mine wheel where one if flaking is currently in the shop, even though I tried arguing with them for a new wheel all they said is that I have a lifetime warrenty when the wheels get "re-finished" so if this happens again I'm going to demand a new wheel. Glad to know I'm not the only one having problems
