Previous Owner Problems - HIDs in Stock Housings

All-

Bought my 2008 ss/tc about 6 months ago. PO told me it has HIDs and HID foglights. Balasts/harness are there and visible (best I can tell they're 55w) - in the stock housings, not projectors. Realizing this is not the best and I am parking the car for the winter I want to build a set of retros. I've been reading up on it and it does not seem hard but the only thing holding me back is dealing with how everything is wired. Highs/low work, odd thing is they are "switched" so low is high and viceversa. Is there anything possibly salvageable from what I have or should I just start over with a whole new setup since we don't know the quality of everything. Any advice?

It's easy. I sell DIY kits and people have done retros with a breeze.
Wiring is cake. Plug and play.
What u can salvage are the ballasts.

Is it possible to use new bulbs in projectors with everything else as is? Or is every cheapo HID kit use different connectors? If I'm gonna spend a couple hundred I might as well redo it all

when u retrofit. its common to go to a H1 bulb or D2S. A new harness is used (Bi Xenon) which has a extra connector that goes to the projector you retrofitted in. That connector is what controls the solenoid inside the projector and that makes your high beams when there is current running thru it. The flap drops down and high beam is made.
