i finally got around to taking pics of my headlights. basically my problem's are.. when my lows are on, my highs come on a little bit, when my highs are on, my lows come on a little bit also, and now my gf brought to my attention that my driver's side headlight is dimmer than the passenger side. do you think it's the bulb? i took a pic of them on a wall also to get some advice on how i can aim them better.. heres some pics.. and btw, the 3 prongs arent bent lol.

i'm guessing it's faulty wiring and i cant fix the problems.. but if any of you have suggestions, im open for them. thanks

 

Why the problems? Those things are plug and play this doesn't make sence. Did yo lose the wiring harness they come with?

Ok anyway it looks like first off you have a bad ground on the 1 low beam thats dim, secondly you have a wire crossed thats why the hi's are dim when the lows are on. In fact it may just be that crossed wire is messing it all up! What happened to the harnesses that came with them?

 

well it doesnt make sense because it's like that on both sides.. i dont know whats going on with them. and no, i still have the wiring harnesses

 

And all you did was plug them in and this is the result?

 

yes sir.. i mean i switched out the white leds in the angel eyes to blue but i mean i didnt mess with the wiring harness or anything.. i mean it couldnt be the white and black wires that power the halos/3 top leds so its gotta be something in those wiring harnesses..

 

Disconect the halos and the LED,s and see what happens. I'd be willing to bet you put 1 of them in backwards and thats why your having the problems. Remember LED's only work 1 way. The longer lead is the + and the shorter lead is the -.

Go disconect everything but the regular lights and see if that doesn't get them working correctly. Then you just need to see where you crossed one of the LED's

 

well all of the angel eye leds are working.. lol i made sure of it.. but even so, why would the leds mess up my regular lows and highs? they arent even connected to them. but when it gets nicer out, ill try what you suggested.

 

Because the LED's if installed backward will allow currect to leak from + to - and act like a bad ground. Installing the incorrect light bulb for example will have almost the same effect. Say you plg in a 3156 where a 3157 belongs, well your turn signals won't work right front or rear, your headlights will be all screwy, and your 4 ways will look like a railroad crossing when you hit them! That and since the only thing you did was mess with the LED's and its easy to mix up the anode and cathode on an LED then thats why I say its got to be the problem.

How in the world did you change the halo leds'? where did you get them and how did you do it?

 

err. ok look at the the gray connect you used to plug into the harness. those pins inside bend. esp the middle one. rebend them foward and keep doing it till the lights dont come on with the lows. mine did the same thing and theres about 47348239 threads.

 

Mkurlrey13....since you are the LED specialist how can i change the LEDs in my halos? mine aren't that bright

LOL i knew you were gonna come on here. im the one thats always having problems with these and i made sure i wrote " 3 three prongs arent bent" lol its just not workin for me man.. i made sure those prongs werent bent.

ok.. say i installed one backwards. it wont light up correct? even so.. i made sure the longer wire was soldered to the + and the shorter one to the - and i know they all light up because i made sure. but ill still disconnect them and see what happens. thanks for working with me on this though

 

It all depends how you wired them up. If for example you took all the + and soldered them together and all the - you did the same thing BUT you crossed one set they'll bleed current back thru and cause a short.

If this isn't the problem then I have to ask if you swaped out ANY other bulbs when you put these in.

 

the problem is IN the connecter... the PINs arnt making connection. time to take it apart and fix it.

 

MK seems pretty certain dude! Check them connectors before you cut anything.

 

what do you mean in the connector? and how could i take it apart and fix it lol.. i would like to get these fixed though

and like i said, im gonna disconnect the wires and see what happens.. and i did put the silverstar turn signals in and i have luminics titanium white for my lows and the stockers for my highs.. but i did take them out.. do those have to go in a certain way?

 

Mine do the same and and i never touch the LED's , however i did have a bulb blow about a month later and i replaced it with the same one. - I woulder if my LED's were wired wrong from the start. ? ....or maybe the wire i spliced together is not making a full connection?- ehh I'm looking into retro fitting them soon anyways.

 

If you were able to wire in the LED's with no problem then I doubt you screwed up putting headlight bulbs in. Check the harness like MK said. If you find its bad you may have to make your own plugs or hard wire the projectors in.

 

well do the bulbs have to be in a certain way? and how would i go about seeing if the harness is bad?

 

Do you have a test light? If not go to Pep Boys or who ever is near you and pick one up for light $5.00. Turn the lights on and start probing the wires to see if you have a short.

OR one at a time disconect the light bulbs and see if the problem goes away, if not reconnect it and move to the next bulb. I have these same projectors so if you need help with what color wires should be hot when let me know and I'll go check mine out since they work correctly.

Hey on a side note did you replace the little tiny halo LED's with 2 for each one like they are from the factory or did you use one big LED for each halo? Its a good idea I'm thinking of trying.

 

im teling you, the problem is in the gray connector. mine did the SAME. the middle prong is not making a clean connection inside, its either bent shorter then others (hard to tell but it does happen) or the connectors inside the connector moved.

 

Thats why I told him to get a test light and check the wires cause he says his plug looks good. You can also unplug the lights one at a time and see if you can narrow down where the bad plug/issue is.

Still want to know 1 BIG LED or 2 small ones in the halo's?

 

i used 2 3mm led's for the halos.

 

Cool! Do you remember their voltage? Like 3.5 or 5.0 or 7.0 volt LED's? I've found some and plan to use the highest voltage ones i can find cause they should light up the brightest.

 

i dont know what voltage they were.. i got them form mkulrey13. he should know what they are.
