Questions for a weekend project

So I am thinking bout painting my oem headlight housings black this weekend. Just have a few simple questions regarding the project.

First of all, does this part clip off somehow? (the ground wires where the cool pink arrow is pointing at) How do you take it out?

Secondly does this part get painted or taped off? Ive seen it done both ways but idk if that part reflects or what?

Thanks for any and all input!

very nice detailed pictures, you could make a wonderful how-to during this weekend project

i myself havent opened up or tried to paint the stock headlights so i cant say for sure but it does look like they'd come off, and i wouldnt paint the bottom of that reflector but thats just me

I'm not exactly sure what the pink arrow is pointing too, but that entire wire harness on the light will get removed. The part with the blue plug is the main bulb, the small black thing next to the arrow is the bulb for the sidemarker, that just twists out, top right plug is for the turn signal, and the bottom right plug is the main harness plug. Remove the entire harness and all bulbs on the headlight. Take off the black clip that holds the main bulb in place, and remove the low beam bulb. Take off the rubber dust boot too,

That bottom piece you circled in the second pic is just there to create glare to light up road signs, you will be perfectly fine painting that.

no it will be perfectly fine. All the output that goes on the road comes from the rear reflector.

I did mine a couple weeks ago......the harness you are pointing to is a market bulb, the connector just twists and comes out line the other bulbs. I taped off the other part and left it silver. Here's a picture.

well, looks....and I wanted to leave everything that reflected light so my lights didn't get dimmer. But most of the reflection comes from the back part.

And not sure about the illegal part. Mine has an amber bulb for the turn signal.

yea thats what i am worried about if my lights will get dimmer if i paint that part. Not sure if it looks better painted or left alone either. Might just have to tape it off. Dont need dimmer lights lol

If you want just pop out the orange lense and use an amber bulb. That's what I did with my retrofits. Haven't run into any issues.
