Rear Wing Tremble
Just wanted to see if anyone else had noticed that the rear wing on the ss/sc tends to vibrate or tremble at 70+mph. This may be normal, but just wanted to make see if i am the only one experiencing it. I've notice the vibration isnt quite as bad when the windows are up and the sunroof is closed.
I really didn't expect the wing to flutter like it does. I think that GM should have tested it before allowing it into mass production. Try shutting your trunk and just observe how much it vibrates. This all has to do with the way the wing mounts to the trunk.
well its good to hear this but again it isnt. cuz after i put my ss wing on my base i thought it was just weak and i didnt do it right cuz mine is acting up exactl like all of yours are.
I also have noticed my wing vibrating a bit in my rear view mirror even just driving around town (certain bumps etc.) so far I'm not too concerned about it as the vibrations are small and I dont expect it to do any 'damage' unless it starts really flapping wildly or something and jump off the car or something 
I imagine the only way to 'eliminate' the fluttering/trembling would be to install some sort of support strut in the center of it down to the trunk lid.... but that would look crappy I think.
as Mercury stated it is a result of how the wing is mounted to the car (how the side pieces come down then it goes in and down to the trunk), it's going to naturally flex as a result...

yes. my pass door is going to be ajusted next week, it rubs at the bottom of the body frame, already rubbed thru to the primer! when u open the door, u can see the door falls down about 1/16th inch maybe, just a little out. warranty!
The Grand Am race cars replace that section with a carbon fiber version (see the home page pictures). I am sure this takes care of the problem, I wish someone knew who made those. I test drove an STI and it does the same thing but the carbon fiber section on the EVO doesn't move at all. Hopefully someone can find out who makes this piece.

If this were so, the Grand Am Cup Cobalts would not race with the wing, yet they use a carbon fiber one of the exact same dimensions to stock, so it must have some degree of aerodynamic value. They would not compromise their race performance just to maintain a "stock" appearance. The wing on the 2.4L SS is almost totally useless (especially on sedans), and obviously is just a sporty touch.
I can't see GM's performance division selling the car if the wing served only to slow the car down. These cars were tested hard-core. They wouldn't put it there if it was for show, and messed up the aerodynamics. I'd be willing to bet it creates a slight amount of downforce at high speed, but nothing too substantial. Probably little or no difference with or without. Part of it being there was admittedly for cosmetic appearance.
I could be wrong though. I'm not an aerodynamicist by any stretch.

The wing isn't creating turbulence, it is affected by disturbed air already there. The turbulence is not high enough until 70-80 MPH, which is when it starts to shake. The fact that it is affected by this airflow, suggests some functionality to the wing. The fact that some people have claimed a mileage improvement due to loosing the wing may suggest that is does produce drag, which in turn would produce downforce on the rear of the car. I'm no aero genious either. I am a huge motorsports fan though. The cobalts in the Grand Am Cup are using the wing for Downforce. Downforce is HUGE in racing. Althought there probably isn't much downforce generated when cornering at speeds under 100 MPH. I know the wing probably doesn't affect speed that much until you're over 100 MPH.. then it may have some small effect on speed. Thats just what I think
