removing side panel?
removing side panel?
the rubber like strip on the side of my car has faded big time. to make matters worse, when i waxed my car last i got some on it and not it just completely takes away from the side on view of my car. is it possible for me to take these off? if i do will it leave any residue or anything behind?
Are you talking about the 1" side molding? And yes if thats what your talking about you can remove it and there will be some double sided tape that will stay on the car you will need to get off
yeah thats what im talking about. how difficult is it to get off? is it worth trying or will it never look clean? especially since my paint job is pretty faded. i plan on clay barring and waxing my car next week, should i do it before that?
In summary....... and in my opinion. GET IT DONE BY SOMEONE ELSE. PLEASE. (sorry for the length i just really dont want someone else going through what i did.)
Dude thats why to much information
It took me like an hour to get it all off the car, just get a heat gun and move the gun down the molding one door/panel at a time and get it hot but watch the paint so it doesnt screw it up and pill the molding off and just Glo Gone however you spell it and remove the rest of the double sided tape

Pain in the ass to fully do it. I used a whoooole bunch of goo gone on mine and still had a line of dirt where they used to be. but elbow grease, the goo gone, and a clay bar and it makes all the difference in the look. so much sleeker
I took mine off for appearence reasons. It was HARD. not as easy for me as other made it seem to be. my car is a 2005 though. i had to use two different adhesive removers and a blowdryer ALOT. It took way longer than i thought it would and would barely budge. I was using a plastic paint scrapper that was completly dull; (i sanded it to keep from scratching) and barely getting anywhere. However having gotten far enough, i couldnt discontinue so i got impatient and put some nice surface scratches in my paint. I also even lubricated where i was pushing the tape away from door with super soapy water to prevent scratches, which worked for the most part. (I had to use a very quick sawing motion for it to even budge in anyway even after letting adhesive soak in for as long as i saw fit.) Then, under the bars the paint seemed discolered in some areas possibly from heat over the years melting into the 3m tape and glue and making barely visible discoloration. (like you can barelyyyyyyy barely see it if you get real close) but it almost looks like clearcoat damage. Really had a bad experience with the whole process and was displeased even after following several suggestions and tutorials and having a completly different result when doing it for myself. The worst part? when i got them off if i didnt get flush enough with the tape and get under a bulk of it? only some would come off and not the whole strip in one peice. so after i removed the strips i had to go back and get all the little tiny peices that litteraly seemed GLUED to my doors. Everything is fine now and i buffed and waxed out the scratches for the most part, they only show right after a tough wash but only if your looking right at them up close.
In summary....... and in my opinion. GET IT DONE BY SOMEONE ELSE. PLEASE. (sorry for the length i just really dont want someone else going through what i did.)
