Is it safe?
I was thinking about replacing all the vacuum hosing with red silicon hosing. I noticed all the hoses are REALLY thick ( thicker than the silicon ), and some of them are almost touching the engine. Would it be safe to replace all the hosing??
Typically silicon is much higher quality than factory hosing. Not to mention it looks sweet if you change out the black hoses for red, blue, green, or whatever color you can get. Its primarily used for engine dress up.
The large hoses that run near the engine, do you think it would be safe to change those or no... They run directly above the engine, kind of go around it.
no order a kit online for the bigger ones.. also silicone flexs more than the factory ones, make sure it doesnt kink or itll blow up like a water balloon
So I bought the hosing from autozone, and decided instead of replacing the stock hoses Id just wrap the silicone around them. It looks pretty damn sweet, and can easily be removed for access to the stock hoses. Ill post some pics...
HERES A PIC OF WHAT IVE DONE SO FAR. I STILL GOT LOTS MORE TO DO.

I would suggest finding a more efficient and neater way to route the hoses instead - the stock hose arrangement on the Cobalt engine looks like a spaghetti bowl. Is that something you really want to call attention to by dressing it up with color?
I would like to do that, but unfortunately I dont want to compromise the integrity of the stock hosing. It does look messy stock, but I dont care. All Im looking to do is make that mess look a little "cleaner" by doing a little engine dress up.
It's okay to replace hosing, just make sure you know what you are doing. You have to know what the hose does before you replace it with another hose or even just re-route it. If you are aware of the functionality, you will realize that some hoses are routed for specific reasons, such as the fuel line that goes across the top of the valve cover. I re-routed that line, but I did so extremely cautious because a kink in that hose could be catastrophic for the engine. If you want to replace lines with different hosing, make sure the correct connections are used and that you use hosing that is better, or at the very least, as reliable as the stock hosing. I do plan on replacing and re-routing a lot of the hosing by the TB, but I'm planning this out thoroughly so that everything is safe and aesthetically pleasing...
My advice, look up the build book and identify each line, it’s purpose and then go out looking for an appropriate replacement. Don’t do this half-assed. If done right, this can make a great visual upgrade for your engine compartment.
