sedan with coupe rear end..

i got kinda bored and started looking at cobalt pictures and i realized something. if you take out the trunk and the rear bumper of a sedan, i dont see why the coupe trunk and bumper wont fit it.. after noticing that i might just try and do the swap this summer.

what do you guys think?

That would be pretty sweet. It might not bolt right up though. You might need to fabricate mounts. This would be a first that I would love to see.

yea there might be some little hidden issues, but the rear quarter panel and all seems identical (the part where it meets the trunk and bumper..) so its gonna be interesting im gonna start looking for cheap coupe bumper and trunk

You should ask your dealer for diagrams of all the mounting points.

i bet its a straight swap. knowing GM and how they recycle parts (I.E. sunfire and cav front ends are a direct swap, sunfire sedan and cav rears are a direct swap, etc.). I've considering doing a rear swap on my SS for a G5 tail/rear. I bet its a direct swap also. The only things i could see possibly being different are the holes that the tails mount into, but i have my doubts that GM would produce two seperate 1/4 panel designs because of tail lights.

exaclty....knowing GM (or any other company really) ...i wonder how different it is for the tail light wire (and side marker on the bumper for the coupe)

Assuming it worked... it'll look funny.

However, I have a SS 2.4L Sedan, my fiance has a LS coupe, i looked at the trunks, they simply wont match up.

the rear windshields are different (SS 2.4L Sedan's drop in), the LS coupe's are a flush fit.

too many little things.

Alotta fabbing to get it mounted , but it may look pretty cool . The trunk or the rear bumper will not just bolt right up though . The rear bumpers on the coupe extend out quite a bit more than the shorter rear sedan bumper . For the GM sedan concept car , the tail light section of the coupe bumper was probably grafted onto the sedan bumper . Same thing with the trunk , with the circular lights being sectioned in .

For a body shop with even limited fabbing skills , grafting these pieces onto the sedan parts would be very simple , IMO .

This is from the GM concept

Looks like the bumper would fit but the trunk wouldn't

Its not a direct swap!!

look at a coupe back end, and the sedan back end

The coupe's have a slight outcropping all the way across the trunklid and fenders.
They also have a completely different rear window design and completely different trunklid
