Shift knob swap

Does anyone know if its possible to switch out the stock shift knob for a aftermarket one. If so how? And how do you get the bag to stay flush with the knob?

A vendor is working on an interchangeable knob for the stock shifter.

BPS. I inquired about it weeks ago and they said it was in the works. Maybe show more interest and it will speed them up some.

Idk about the Cobalt, but in the earlier model year Redlines, there was an issue with the shift knob shooting off of the shifter (it was spring loaded on). GM's solution was to glue it on with some super strong adhesive.

The 04 redline we had used to do that. the tsb wasnt for glue it was for the torx bit screw u now see in the top of the knob under the shift pattern. That thing used to hit the roof. Glad it never did it with the sunroof open. First time it did it I laughed my ass off!

I used a tap and die set. Threaded the shifter and then did a shift knob to fit. A little messy with the metal shavings, but simple enough to do. Gives more options of the shift knobs you can use too

I've had mine off on the base and it's rather easy. Although there aren't any threads to hold it on but I'm considering a short shifter in the near future anyways.

Pry off the 5spd pattern, remove screw then pull up as if you were Thor. The lsj I took off the other day was splined
