Question SS s/c front grill ?

Has anyone else ever noticed that the front grill on the SS s/c in the original pics of the car is actually a little different than the one they put on it? The Red car is the original and the blue is the actual production look. I know that they change things a bit from a pre production to the actual model, but my question is does GM sell that part/parts to make it look like the Red SS on the left? Does anyone else like the left pic better too?

I agree, I like the honeycomb grille from the pre-production model better as well.

Hopefully some companys will make aftermaket grilles for the Cobalt, a billet grille would look pretty cool too I think

I don't care for either one, hopefully someone will come out with a nice aftermarket grill. JMO

Yeah I was talking about he honeycomb AND the rest of the plastic around that area. the middle bar going across the from left to right is bigger and the bottom U shape around the honeycomb is different as well. I want my SS to look the the Red one not the blue. If you compair the 2 pics there a few differences that I think make the Red one look just a lot sportier.

I agree completely. Now that I look at the picture closer, I see exactly what you are talking about, its not just the insert thats different. Looks like they decided to change the way the whole grille is put together - the red one looks like the crossbar and honeycomb are a one piece insert, whereas the blue (production) one looks like the grille is integrated completely with the bumper.

Hopefully there will be an aftermarket grille that is like the pre-production model, the thicker crossbar and honeycomb look much better than the stock SS S/C grille that is shared with the other Cobalts.

I never noticed that before. I like the preproduction one better as well. I wish we could find out all the reasons these types of things were changed. I'm curious.

My guess would be simple economics, they could pinch a few pennies by using the same grill on all Cobalt models instead of making one just for the SS.

Damn , I didnt even catch that difference from the concept car . The only reason that woulda been left a replaceable insert is if the SS bumper woula been used in some model for the Canadian Pontiac Pursuit , so the Pontiac grill coulda went in there like on the 4-door Pursuits .

Looks ALOT better with the honeycomb nonetheless .

I think I know where to find that grill..............my wife's 2004 Chevy Optra has a grill that looks like that , I am going to go outside and look to see if it is the same size.

The pictures posted in the Canadian Driver review of the SS S/C also has the thicker grille, except with lines like the production grille instead of the mesh. It looks similar to the chrome LT grille, except painted. And yeah, I want that one too...

you can easily insert mesh screening and it would look like that

the honeycomb grill would look awesome, because the SS inserts in the rear also is the honeycomb design.

Yeah I noticed it a while ago.

I wish it actually made production, the thicker grill bar makes the car stand out differently
