how thick suede material should i use?

 

Whatever the fabric store has, thinnest would be easier to work with

I agree, I wouldn't get anything too thick

 

Thin but not too thin.

You want it thin enough to mold around the contours of the head liner ie: the window visor indents and rear coat coats etc. But not so thin that the glue bleeds through. Thin/thick is only half it fyi, You have to pay attention to how the material is backed, you want something with a solid backing, nothing porous/semi see through, its needs to be a close nit backing.

 

does anyone know if using a steamer will help me conform to the dips and corners on our headliner whel laying my suede material down?

you want need anything to conform the suede other then your hands, I have done this before
