swaping gauges

Not sure on this so heres my question. Will the gauges in the SS/SC fit and work properly in the SS/NA? Cuz I know a poor SS/SC that got rear ended and is in a junkyard

It's an electronic unit and I doubt that the sesnsor or the wiring would be easy to install in your car.

Best solution would be a Mechanical Autometer jobbie IMO.

I think it would work fine. It's most likely the same plugs, same sensors, same wiring. The only difference is the electronics in the gauge cluster itself and how it reads the incoming signals. If the plugs look the same and contain the same color wires I would say go for it.

well the SS N/A won't ever push it into boost, so you'd just be measuring vaccuum with it, probably not worth it

Hmm, Same Sensors?

Why do you think GM would bother to install a Pressure sensor and all the wiring on a NA Cobalt?

I would imagine you'd have to have the computer recalibrated, if that's possible, because the computer thinks it's displaying speed on a scale from 0-140 in the same area that the gauge is showing 0-160, so it's not going to be showing an accurate speed on the speedo.

If that is the case, it should work but perhaps the speedo might need to be calibrated..

I think it's the same output straight from the VSS. Looking at schematics (Shh...) the PCM doesn't seem to modify the VSS out to the gauges in any way, shape, or form. I think everything would read dead on. The electronics in the speedometer/cluster are what reads the signal and outputs it to analog needle gauge format. Same for the tach and everything. And as far as the boost gauge goes...you would read nothing above 0. But yes, the n/a cars still have a 1-bar MAP sensor installed so you could still read up to atmospheric pressure. But...why would you bother install the boost gauge in a non-sc car? Lol.

Well, from my experience with things of this nature, im thinking you'd have to program your theft because you cant just go taking parts from different cars and throwing them on yours. Odds are, thats all you need is a theft re-program. Other than that, all gauges are the same except for the gauge face readouts and color.

Plus it will give me a chance to dig into the dash guts of the wrecked SS S/C so I know what to do with mine without breaking anything.
