Under Hood Blanket
dont have to get so hostile. i know the blanket is there to resist fire (read my earlier post), but im not sure about the plastic retainers which are designed to melt and drop when theres a fire?!
It makes a world of difference on an automobile fire under the hood. The insulation does drop down smothering the fire. which I can bet most fires start on the top end of the motor then spreading into the cabin thru the "firewall". All the plastics in todays cars make it even worse. Il opt to leave it on. If chevy thought that the engine temp was to high they would have adjusted the tstat fan controls or something along those lines.
I also believe the design of most cars with grilles allow the air to run over top of the motor and down under the cabin.

Ive never bought an aftermarket hood. Arnt most fiberglass? Ive never seen an aftermakret hood for sale for my 66 that was steel unless someone molded a scoop onto a stock hood.
If most are fiberglass then they are fire retardent allready since thats what house insulation was made out of as well.

Guys the hoods are metal, the engine is metal, removing the engine covers reduces the fire threat since modern car plastics burn with a very high heat load, over say an equal ammount of paper. Therefore platics burn hotter. However, if there were a fire its going to be a class B fire, flamable liquids, since metal is not going to burn, the gas is. If an electrical fire breaks out the fuel for that fire comes from the inslation on the wires and the conduit. Fires that break through the firewall do so at the points where wiring and hoses run through it. That thin "blanket" is going to get saturated though with gas and go up in flames itself. If you guys are so worried about fires buy an extinguisher or one of the supression systems.
as stated, it is a safety feature and it does work. I also think it makes the engine compartment look more modern, but that's a personal thing. it keeps down noise and prevents the hood from getting as hot. moreover... removing it is pretty rice.

bad idea. you sir, have never tried to get 18 junior bacon cheeseburgers in your wallet after purchasing 2 with a 20.
Of corse the engine won't run any cooler. The hood doesn't act like a heat sink for the engine! Good Grief! Its to help with the sound deading of the engine. As for whole fire thing......its sounds reasonable and that stuff don't burn too easy so I'd say it has 2 purposes. Sound deading and this fire surpression theroy of you guys.
I've already ordered mine so when it comes in I'll post pcs.

Took all of of 2 minutes to install, would have been only 1 but I dropped a clip and had to move the car. Looks great IMO and seeing how it only cost me 80 jr bacon cheese burgers I though it wasn't that hateful.
