Undercar Neons

Anyone have experience installing undercar neons on the cobalt? Any tips/tricks to making the install any easier? Im looking to find the optimum location for the placement of the bulbs. Lastly does anyone have any undercar shots of the installed neons? Thanks in advance!

Probably won't be able to get shots of 'em, but, as mentioned, the install is not too bad.

There's a small vent that leads into the trunk on the passenger side that makes a great place to run wires. Make sure you have plenty of zip ties for securing wires, and a very strong drill bit for making mouting holes.

ya mounting on the rear core support is a bitch to drill through. And he isn't kidding you will use a **** load of wire tires, and please get black ties so you can hide it under the car.

Thats what i noticed first were the holes in the trunk already which will make it nice. My biggest worry of the project is drilling the holes. What type of screw did you use? 1/4in Machine/Sheet metal screws? The electrical work is not an issue. Im using the Street Glow Gold series and hoping the bulbs will be concealed for the most part. Did you hookup to the fuse box or run and inline fuse off the battery? How about a kill switch? Where did you decide to stick that?

I didn't screw anything.

You are able to mount with all zip ties even the bulbs.

Luckily for me I have rockers on each side and I was able to hide the bulbs behind them using their support clips.

Install time for me was alittle over an hour.

Well thats good to know you don't "have" to use screws. Are the zip ties still holding up to the elements well? Another thing i just kind of remembered about is the side neons. To avoid someone breaking the bulbs where did you place them? Right on the other side of the side ground effects or on the other side of the lip used to jack the car up?

Mine are right on the other side of the "ground effects." I ran an inline fuse off the battery and ran a switch up to the dash under the trim. My bulbs are all secured with screws, so I'm not sure how zip ties will hold up.

PS: thank you, members of cobaltss.net, for not going on at great length about why he should NOT install these lights; as always, what one does with their vehicle is a personal preference

Cobaltcrusin, i just noticed you have a 2.4 SS as well and this is a bit off topic but i see you have a pacesetter header? I bought the neons, for now, instead of that because i have been seeing mixed stories about it. Currently i have a stock exhasut system witht the exception of a magnaflow cat back. Did those headers match up with yor stock DP or did you have to fabricate? Also do you know the place and or model number where you orderd from? I have seen them with a 2 bolt hookup and a 3 bolt hookup. It has been too cold and wet for me to get out and see how everything matches up now. Thanks!

i know there not ground effects but for lack of a better word, it seems you knew what i was talking about

mine is up with zip ties (they're much thicker than the ones you generally buy tho....they came with the led's) and they're still holding fine to the elements. (careful tho, because they don't hold up well to the lift your dealership so carelessly puts under there, so keep that in mind....)

Okay the pacesetter header was rather easy to install. I put it on last week.

I also had to custom fab a downpipe, but it was really really easy. A shop could do this for you for 20-40 bucks. The header I have is a 2 bolt not 3 like our factory downpipe. So you will need to a get a down made or buy one from here (this one comes w/o cat though) I wanted a cat on mine http://www.exhaustdepot.net/doforpahe.html

Also a custom made downpipe will need an o2 bung put in. I omitted this and wish i did put a bung in. Now I'll have to shut this o2 sensor off via hptune.

And arcenik, there are a lot of asses on this forum. A lot will say "Oh neons/leds, what they give you 10hp?" Man screw them. Whenever they pay your carpayment every month is the day they can tell you what you should put on your car.

What kind of mods do you have rangerondubz? Not that often you see a girl driving a stick, not to mention one who also has good looks to go along with it.

Use the search, its ur friend. I just installed mine last weekend, wasnt too hard at all. I drilled holes then used stainless sheet metal srews to hold the tubes in place. I also made sure i used some galvanized paint to seal the holes along with some undercoating spray to make sure the holes dont rust. I didnt mount mount my rear tube to the rear bumper support, instead I just attached it to that vertical piece of sheet metal thats there. Got the side tubes tucked right in behind the skirts and the front tube is actually mounted inside/ behind the front lip. Ill post some pix up later if u want.

later

what i did was used zip ties for the front and rear tube, the plastic straps on the sides with self tapping skrews and washers, and i ran the wiring from the battery in the trunk through the plastic peice thats in between the door and carpet, and mounted the switch inside of the change holder thing.. wish i would have gone with l.e.d. setup instead of neon.. mine isnt that bright and red is one of the lightest colors anyway

Well props to him. If she could drive stick, thats still sweet and nice catch!

Thanks for the posts and pictures. I just got them in and have yet to install them the only thing i have done so far is install the switch (right under the ebrake). Im waiting for a warmer dry day and hopefully a garage to be able to get these things on. I just hope the red ond red doesn't look too terrible and hopefully i wont get too much **** from the local cops. It says on the state highway website that there is no restriction on color, they just can't flash or be visible if over 300lumins and i can't have them at all if over 500. Maybe i'll print that out and keep it in my car.
