Vinyls and the Cobalt

I have my cobalt ss/sc on order it's arrival blue.

Here is my question. I would like to put some nice vinyl racing stripes down the hood, top, truck of my car when I get it. I am thinking a grey/silver metallic. My question is first are any of the support vendors working on things like this (I noticed RK has some decals down the side of their show coablt) and what kinda cost am I looking at?

On my Xtreme I believe the OEM stripes/decals where like 300 bux.

Not sure the exact style I want yet but the typical Chevy stripes would be ok, or I would be happy to take suggestions. I am kind of suprised it's not an option on the SS/SC.

I'll be helpful.

There are many vinyl specialists on the internet that can make you some custom stripes. Its not difficult for them - all they need is the length of your car. If you plan on saving money, grab a squeegee and do the stripes yourself and just cut out sections of the strip that you don't want (ie. windshield..). If thats not preferable, pay for the stripes and then pay to have a shop apply the vinyl for you. I'm sorry to hear that you paid 300 dollars for gawdy stripes - make an effort on your cobalt to pay atleast half of that.

If you can wait till next X-mas when I go to visit my family, I can put whatever ya want on it. I've got my own business that specializes in vinyl graphics. Been doing it for over 10 years - mostly fleet vehicles, buses, and wraps (full-color digital print that covers the entire vehicle). I only do installations, but I've got a friend in the Atlanta area that designs and produces the graphics. But since I live in Florida, that would include one hell of a trip charge

I did this temporary (was only on for 4 days) install for a NAPA Autoparts/OC Choppers commercial. That "chrome" is all vinyl decal. Is this what you had in mind?

I had this custom made for my old sunfire. Sorry its the best digi pic i have of the vinyl. In the sun it is a metallic charcoal / gunmetal color.
I had him draw it up on a computer and install it for 250 canadian. Get a place to custom make it so you know it fits. Ask around for a shop or look at the yellow pages, some straight stripes shouldn't be much and you can pick all kinds of color from a palette.

I think charcoal would look the best on your blue, it would match the rims. But i actually would prefer to not have vinyl on a car. i only did it to cover up where someone keyed it; as visible in the pic. Although the good thing is that it can just be removed if you don't like it.

I've got my friend in Atlanta working on some custom fit designs right now. He said he just has to try and find software with a template of the Cobalt since it's still quite new. That way, he can be sure if an exact fit. If you have any ideas or special requests you can email him:

michael@signprosusa.com

He's only begun working on the website, so there's nothing there to see right now.

I don't have any production equipment myself as I only do installs. If your in Florida, I can install the graphics for ya (I travel all over Florida for other jobs, might be in your area already and can stop by). Otherwise, you can take it to any sign shop. Just watch them. If they get out the soap and water to install it, they probably aren't very experienced. Take your car and run, run away...

By the way, unless you request a special brand, he will use 3M vinyl (5 to 7 year warranty against fading, shrinking, or cracking, depending on laminate). It costs a little more, but definately worth it.
