Window tinting

So I am getting my windows tinted on Monday the 6th thanks to the local casino I was just wondering what darkness of tint you think would look best on a black cobalt. I am getting the front sides tinted as well but probably a bit lighter than the back three. If anybody has any pics of their windows that would be great too.

They are a lot more easy on you in AZ. As long as they can see an outline they are okay with it.

Well Iowa law says no tint whatsoever on the front sides, but the cops around here are very lax and don't bother with little stuff like that unless they are absolutely looking for a reason to pull someone over. Plus the place that is tinting my windows has a lifetime guarantee on the tint so they will replace it even if a cop scratches it so you have to replace it.

Get them pics up!!!

On my Cavalier I had 5% rear and 50% front. The cops never bothered me and it looked pretty good.

Ive got a black base coupe with the light gray interior and I went with the 20% all around and the 5% strip on the front. Its not too dark but it keeps nosy people from looking in too much. Its just perfect even though in Ohio the law says that the front windows have to be 50%....oops!

I too have a black Cobalt. Iam going to get my windows tinted soon. I was going to get 20% on rear and sides and wonder how dark that would be. I would like to be able to see out of them at night, especially to back up in a dark area.

20% all around is perfect. Not too dark but dark enough.

I have a black SS/SC and got my windows tinted about 3 days after i got it 20% all the way around. Illegal but Ive been pulled over and no cop has said anything ::knocks on wood:: . Seeing at night on the other hand was not a problem until I tinted my tail lights. Now its only driven at night when I am familiar with the area and know I can back up safely or wont have to back up at all because I have no reverse lights with the tails tinted. Plan this mod with future mods in mind is pretty much where I am goin with this.

Yeah I think 20% is on the safe side unless you live in one of the Communist states. Here in Indiana my brother had double 5% for years and never got pulled over. Double 5% is not driveable at night. Stupid IMHO but he is my blood.

Well after much debate I am going to go with 50% on the front sides to be on the safe side. The back three windows I am going with 10%. Thanks for all the opinions.

Is 50% the legal max in your state? 50% isn't even worth it IMHO. That's so light that you may not even notice it. At least go 35%.

The legal max in Iowa is 0% besides factory. That is why I don't want to go with 20%. 35% may be an option, but I still think I would get hassled for it.

0% is completely black. 0% of light gets through. I think what you mean is that you can't get tint at all.

I just checked the Iowa law and on the front side windows 70% is the legal max which means no tint at all. If you wear glasses I would get your doctor to give you a note and file the application to get darker tint.

b. A person suffering from a light=sensitive disorder may
16 operate a motor vehicle equipped with windows with less than
17 seventy percent light transmittance, if that person has made
18 application and has received a waiver of the restriction for
19 the person's motor vehicle and if a light=sensitive disorder
20 permit is properly affixed to the person's motor vehicle. The
21 department shall waive the restriction and issue an
22 accompanying permit if the applicant files a written statement
23 signed by a licensed vision specialist which certifies that
24 the applicant suffers from a light=sensitive disorder and that
25 it is medically necessary for the person to obtain a waiver of
26 the light transmittance requirements of this subsection. Any
27 other person operating a motor vehicle with a light=sensitive
28 disorder permit affixed to the motor vehicle shall not be
29 charged with a violation of this section, even though that
30 person does not suffer from a light=sensitive disorder. As
31 used in this paragraph, "licensed vision specialist" means a
32 physician or osteopath licensed under chapter 148, 150, or
33 150A, or an optometrist licensed under chapter 154. This
34 exemption does not apply to commercial vehicles or commercial
35 motor vehicles.
