So I want to know what tint would be right for my car.. I have a 2005 Cobalt LS Coupe, and it's black. The legal window tinting in my state is 35% all around. I was thinking about just getting 50% cause I don't want to be a real target for the cops. What do you all think?

 

depends how the cops r in your area. Talk to some guys local and see if they get harassed alot. Here, where i live, you can go to 5% on your back windows but you cant touch the front doors at all. Cops dont care here unless u act like a retard, so i got 5% all around. So if the cops arent ******, i say do your 35 all around.

 

id go 35% if its whats legal but i just got 20% and just got pulled over after 3 days

 

Remember that the stock tint on the doors do factor in. So if you're getting 50%, it'll actually be a much lower % by effect.

 

As stated, it really depends on what the cops in your area are like...technically you would want something that's 40% to make it legal...our windows register somewhere in the 93% range from the factory....meaning that if you figure the 40% tint, you'll be right around 35% (that's what I have).

Silver SS/SC above me...he just got unlucky....I know many people in MN that have 20 or 30% and have no problems what-so-ever. I should also mention that in MN we have a 50% legal limit so someone with 20% tint here will probably be more likely to be ticketed than someone who tries 20% in your state (no guarantee though as I said..it depends on the cops).

I have had my tint for nearly 3 years and I've never had any problems...I've only been pulled over once in my car since I've owned it and that was just a couple weeks ago....but that was for speeding (60 in a 50....$125 ticket...2nd ticket only and 4 years since my first ticket).

Anyway....good luck with your decision....you definitely won't be happy with 50%...I'm not happy with mine which even though they call it 35% it's actually 40%. I will probably re-do mine to 30% or possibly 20%. I'm not too worried about it, but who knows. I could always be pulled over for it in the future if I go darker.
