WTF window tint?
I hope you have good luck!!! Last one I had tint put on looked good at first then started to lift off the glass around the dots so it had that "milk-haze" look on the outside.
so just got windows tinted today, looks pretty good, but there is one flaw, the so called dot matrix, you know the black bumps at the top of the rear window, they couldnt coat it, it that how it is for every one or just me, and they said they couldnt tint my sun roof, so am i geting gipped here or is this for real?
My tint guy just sanded down the dot matrix with a brillow pad or a green dish scrubby. didnt hurt it... looks fine thats his fix for it.
had my rear window tinted twice... first time looks pretty shitty and second time came out looking quite a bit better. not perfect but a hell of a lot better then before. I would think adding a layer of tint would make it worse
Sounds like the installer just tried a bit harder the second time around.
??? I wonder what they ment buy saying they had tint to deal with it, tint is tint. It is a plastic film that has a layer of water activated adhesive on it it that sticks to the glass. Now some tint has a bit more aggressive glue, but i have seen almost every film have problems sticking to the dots with out special prep work and alittle extra effort when installing. There are some clear adhesives on the market that can be used on the dots between the film and glass to help it stick but it is very messy...

The extra glue you mean? Really all it is is craft glue, like aleens you get from craft stores and such, most tint places want you to think it is some miracle stuff. What is done is the film is applied as normal, then the installer will drop the film just below the dot matrix and apply a line of this glue to the bottom edge of the matrix, then lay the film back over it and the slowly work the glue up the dots to the edge of the film. The outcome is usually good if done correctly, but the problem is, is when you get the the edgem the excess glue splooges out from under the film, leaving the installer with a nastly slimy glue mess to clean and keep from getting on the interior of the car. What you really pay for is the extra time involved in this process. BUT, i rarely use this method, and NEVER on a cobalt, it's just not necessary, cobalts will almost always stick. Dots have to be cleaned extremely well and the heat forming process must be done properly. I started doing new balts for my local chevy dealer so we have to make sure they are right. Can't sell a new car with a shitty tint job. But before everyone goes and gives their tinters hell about the dots, it is not the tinters fault, blame the stupid manufactures for this. All tinter hate the dots and they all have some issues with them. We tinters just have different ways of dealing with it, some methods work, some don't. also what worked on one car may not work on another one of the same make, go figure???
