Xenon Bulbs

Hey guys. From a post I have going now, I think one of my HID ballasts has gone out. I really don't want to buy another kit off eBay, and don't feel like throwing down over $100 for a good quality kit. I feel like my two options are to get the kit ( I would get it from 3bspec because I've heard nothing but good things about them), or get some Xenon bulbs. The only reason why I would buy bulbs and not put the original halogens in is because I don't want my lenses to melt over time. (I have 2nd gen. projectors). My kit now is 8000k. What bulbs, if any, are good that I could put in there. Thanks guys.

From what im understanding...
Don't you have a warranty? Or no?

and second...

just get another "cheap" kit from ebay.

From the kit's ive seen, come with warranty and cheaper than those xenon bulbs. And I believe the xenon bulbs are a lil higher wattage.

Yeah, I'm in the process of trying to get them warrantied. I'm hoping they will be because I didn't do anything. Maybe I'll just suck it up and get another kit, but from 3bspec.

He is talking about getting those higher watt blue tinted hybrid halogen/xenon bulbs like APC used to sell. I used to have a pair on my dakota they sucked IMHO everthing was monochromatic. They looked very bright, but I couldn't see much at all. They run very hot!!!

X2. Either that or buy a new ballast 3bspec has them for about $40.00 what would be your least expensive route. Using two different ballasts, as long as they are both the same wattage, is fine.

Hmm...didn't think of just getting a ballast from them. I would probably get two new ballasts. I think the driver's side is about to go too. I don't want cheap bulbs in there, I like my HIDs...but dang...I mean I just got them. We'll see what the guy from eBay says. Maybe I'll get them warrantied.

$80 for two ballasts is not too bad considering a set of those ricer APC fake HID bulbs will set you back about $50.

Yeah...that's true. What I don't know is if the wires and all that are still good. I don't think I would want to put a good quality ballast with cheap wires. For all I know, the wires could be fried too.

Good point, I never thought of that. I would but the whole kit from them then I cannot imagine anyone wanting to go back to halogen after they have had HID.

I went down today to check the ballast for the buzz noise it's supposed to make, and nothing was coming from it. I'm guessing it's gone lol.

Do you have a relay harness for your kit or do the ballasts just plug into your stock headlight plugs? You may want to check your wiring especially your grounds. It could be a bad ballast but maybe not. It could be the bulb. Try switching that ballast to the other side and see if the problem follows the ballast if not it is the bulb or the wiring on that side. Ballasts make no noise without a load so if the bulb is blown or you have a bad ground it will be silent.

Hmm...I'll have to go move the bulb around. I don't want to take the ballast out because it's secured on that side already. I'll go back down there and move the bulb from the driver's side to the passenger side and see what that yields. By the way...I have no relay harness. It's plug and play.

Your wires maybe fried on that side you really need to get a relay harness so you do not cook your factory wiring. The headlight wires were not intended to be used with that high voltage high current setup.

I have 2nd gen. projectors as well. I just got back from my car. I couldn't switch the bulbs because I have the wires going through the black seal on the back of my headlights, and I sealed them back back with some sealant I bought. But I unplugged the side that was working, and sure enough, with the bulb not plugged in, there was not a buzz sound. So now I'm not sure if it could just be the bulb. The driver's side isn't perfect either. At night, I'll flip the lights off, and then on again, and neither side will come on...then after a little while, the driver's side will kick in. I have no clue what caused this!

Sounds to me like you have a faulty ground. Intermittent working is one clue. You might also have a burnt wire.

Yeah...and there's nothing I can do about it. I'm trying to get it warrantied...but I doubt it'll happen. I should probably just get another kit. How do I know that this won't happen with the 3bspec kit?
